Honestly? Tumblr. It's not a formal archive, but so many incredible writers post threadfics and snippets there. The top-rated stuff circulates through reblogs and likes. You have to know how to search tags like #kagehina or #kageyamaxhinata, but the character insights and AUs feel very immediate and fresh. The writing can be more experimental, too.
It's a different vibe from sprawling epic fics on AO3, more like catching little brilliant moments. The interaction is direct, which I think pushes writers to explore niche ideas that might not get traction elsewhere.
I've had surprising luck with Asianfanfics. The writing style and tropes can feel distinct from Western-centric platforms. Some authors there approach their dynamic with a different cultural lens that I find really refreshing. It's worth digging through if you want a new perspective on their rivalry and partnership. Just be prepared for a different tagging and summary style.
Archive of Our Own is basically where most of the serious writers for this ship have migrated, in my opinion. You can filter by kudos and the quality is generally higher because the tagging system lets people find exactly what they want. I've found some incredible character studies there that you just don't see on other sites. The community feedback loop is strong.
That said, I still check Fanfiction.net out of nostalgia. Some older, fantastic authors never moved their work, and the sheer volume means there are hidden treasures if you're willing to sort through a lot of... less polished stuff. The top-rated stories there tend to be the classics that defined the ship years ago.

Trixie waited five years for Zahar to come home.
One weekend is all it takes for everything to fall apart. One look from him. One touch. One quiet groan of her name, and she’s on her knees, begging for the man she was never supposed to want.
He’s her father’s best friend. Her childhood crush. The man who stopped pretending he didn’t feel the same the second he saw her again.
It’s wrong. It’s dirty. And neither of them is backing down.
Anyone else remember when the best stuff was scattered across the net on people's personal GeoCities pages? Wild times. Anyway, Archive of Our Own is the absolute central hub now for Haikyuu!! stuff, especially for Kagehina. The tagging system there is a lifesaver—you can filter by everything from 'mutual pining' to 'volleyball as a metaphor' and really narrow things down. I've found some incredible multi-chapter fics there that explored their rivalry-turned-partnership dynamic with way more nuance than I expected.
FanFiction.net still has a decent amount, but you gotta dig through a lot of older fics with... let's say, dated writing styles. Wattpad's a whole different vibe; it's super hit-or-miss for me, but sometimes the more modern, chatfic-style stories there are a fun, quick read. Tumblr is less of a host and more of a rec engine—authors will link to their work on AO3, but the fanart and gifset discussions really enhance the reading experience.
Shoyo x Kageyama fic has such a huge range, honestly. The dynamic can go from pure rivals to something way softer, and my favorites tend to explore that middle ground where the competitive tension bleeds into something else. A story called 'Circuit Breaker' did this perfectly—it's a college AU where they're on rival volleyball teams but keep getting paired for a mandatory engineering project. The banter is sharp, but the way they slowly start to respect each other's brain outside of the court just melted my icy heart.
If you want something that feels canon-adjacent, 'Receive' is a classic. It's set post-time-skip, dealing with the complexities of a long-distance pro-athlete relationship. The author really gets how their communication would be—terse, full of volleyball shorthand, but incredibly deep. It made me appreciate how their partnership is the foundation; the romance feels like a natural extension of that, not the sole focus.
For something completely different, there's a hilarious coffee shop AU where Kageyama is a barista who can't make a decent latte to save his life, and Hinata is the relentlessly cheerful customer determined to teach him. It's fluffier, but the characterization is spot-on; Kageyama's intense concentration on milk steaming is peak him.
Archive of Our Own has absolutely become the hub for that pairing, at least in my corner of the internet. Tumblr still has a huge number of imagines and shorter fics, but for dedicated, multi-chapter stories, AO3's tagging system makes it effortless to find exactly what you're looking for, whether it's angst, fluff, or something much spicier. The quality there also tends to be higher, probably because writers invest more in those longer pieces.
I used to rely on Fanfiction.net, but the tagging is so limited compared to AO3. You really have to dig through pages of general 'Haikyuu!!' stories hoping the author mentions Kageyama in the summary. On AO3, you can filter by the 'Kageyama Tobio/Reader' tag and immediately see what's new. Wattpad has its share too, but the search function feels less reliable, and the stories often get buried under more popular fandoms.
