Between Sun and Moon explores two celestial siblings trying to govern day and night but their balance is disrupted by a forbidden human love. It is a great conflict between cosmic duty and human love that can threaten the whole world. The story of divine beings stuck between rules and humanity in ‘The Moon God’s Bride’ is beautiful as well. A human sacrifice is the only weakness of the cold Moon God and a silent mortal woman slowly dismantles his isolated world. The tension is created as their connection grows inevitably within the strict rituals.

'Between Sun and Moon' is a slower paced, character-focused cosmic fantasy. A retired warrior is hired to escort a child who is said to be able to ‘link’ the sun and moon realms. Rather than any action-packed battle, the story revolves around the struggles of the two characters, the warrior grappling with his past actions as a warrior, and the child fearing he will lose his humanity if he merges with the celestial bodies. The majority of the story takes place around the campfire where the two characters sit and talk while the warrior recounts the stories of the star-gods and how they communicated with each other through dreams. The story ends on a bittersweet note as the child chooses to be alone in order to maintain balance. Not a story for those looking for action, but it does leave a melancholy impression.

Between Sun and Moon is a fantastical, magical and romantic read. The story takes place in a world where daylight and nighttime are not naturally occurring events but rather the result of a fragile truce between two dying deities. A young astronomer is able to discover that the sun is dying, and teams up with a young thief (secretly the moon’s human form) to try and find a way to rekindle the sun at its core. Their journey takes them to a number of guarded temples where they must steal artifacts while at the same time outwitting a ruthless and corrupt priesthood. The description of the world at dusk is beautiful, a time when plants and trees are able to glow in the fading light. The main characters fall deeply in love, but it never feels forced and the thief is a delightfully sarcastic character. My only real criticism of the book would be that the author never fully explains the magic system in place for the book, and as a result there are a number of rules that remain ambiguous. However the thrill of having two main characters literally hold collapsing stars in their hands in order to use their energy is one that will give anyone chills.

Between Sun and Moon is a wonderful Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel that immediately caught my attention in the first chapter. Two siblings, Luna and Sol, discover that they are the last living relatives of a family of celestial beings, left behind by their grandmother’s passing. The novel follows their journey to understand their heritage as they unravel their mysterious powers – Luna can create and manipulate shadows while Sol can control and create light. As they try to figure out what their powers mean, they learn that their abilities are key to an ancient prophecy that will help to balance the universe’s cosmic forces. However, there is a dark faction that wants to use them to bring eternal darkness instead.

The author’s depiction of the world was fantastic. A lot of the story takes place in floating cities powered by starlight, and you can read about the siblings’ travels through underground libraries and up to sky temples, where they are able to avoid their assassins. Most importantly to me though, was the strained relationship of the two siblings due to past family secrets. The only way to save the world in the end is for one of the siblings to make a heart-breaking choice between his or her sibling and the world. This has the ‘feel’ of Fullmetal Alchemist but is a completely unique and original mythology that I would love to see as an anime.

If you are looking for a story that combines mythology and action ‘Between Sun and Moon’ is a great read. The story takes place in a world where the sun and moon are not just celestial bodies but also are alive and are worshiped as gods. The two main protagonists are a pair of twins who are very opposite from each other. After their village is destroyed by a cult trying to merge the two orbs, the quieter of the two twins finds out that she is the vessel of the Moon while her more opposite twin brother is the vessel of the Sun. Their contrasting personalities clash in the best way as they work together and their bond of brotherly love gives the story a lot of depth. Other things that add to the story are the alchemy, aerial combat using magical creatures that can fly, and the antagonist that is more sorrowful than evil. Although the middle of the book was somewhat slow due to a lot of political interactions the final battle was an amazing aerial fight above a city that was falling apart.

What is the plot of Wolves of the Blood Moon?

This is really a story about trauma and recovery. Yes, it’s a fantasy story, but if you take away all the magical elements, it’s a story about a girl whose village and home was destroyed, and she was held captive. And a guy who’s been carrying around the weight of leadership, and has failed before. Their journey together is of them triggering each other’s wounds, learning how to deal with each other’s wounds, and slowly gaining trust of each other. The process of healing the land mirrors their healing of each other. Thus many of the key scenes are not the big battles but rather the quiet moments of vulnerability where one or other of them shares a memory from their past or admits a fear. These are plot crucial as is the fantasy crisis that provides the external conflict to test them. But the real substance of the story are these moments of quiet victory over despair. This is why the romance is so convincing, it is not just a case of two people falling for each other. Instead it is based on a mutual process of healing each other of their respective traumas.

Honestly, I come for the action scenes, the story is just connective tissue between all the transformation battles. The author has a background in martial arts, so it really shows. A fight in a rainy courtyard was so well described that I could actually follow along and it looked cool. Overall, the story follows a stolen relic and such, but the real reason I keep reading is for the next animalistic, viscerally engaging battle.

This is a very masterful plot for a writer. High stakes for the future of human knowledge, for the reputation of science, and for the soul of one believer. Instead of threatening his life, the greatest fear for this character is that we will reject or destroy this gift to him because of our own irrational fears. This is very difficult to write in this fashion and he pulls it off magnificently.

What is the plot summary of Summer Secrets?

3 Answers2025-11-13
Imagine finding out a shocking family secret while dealing with your first crush. ‘Summer Secrets’ follows June as she searches for the truth about her mom’s hidden past. The search becomes a deeply personal journey as June tries to piece together the clues and her journal becomes a personal and emotional search for the truth. The setting of the story on a lake side adds to the story of stormy nights and hope filled sunsets. What resonates with me is the way Summer Secrets explores forgiveness. The anger June feels toward her mom is palpable but so too is the moment where June realises that adults are just people and therefore prone to making mistakes. And Eli – oh Eli! The transition from June’s witty banter with this boy to full on romance is sublime. In particular the scenes where he helps her work out the journal entries were amazing. It makes me want to go and rummage through my own attic to see if I can uncover any family secrets.

What is the plot summary of Firehouse?

'Firehouse' is a compelling mix of mystery and character driven drama. A fire station has been haunted by an unsolved arson attack for a decade. New evidence emerges and the fire station’s youngest member, tech-savvy fire investigator Carlos, is determined to solve the case despite orders to the contrary. There is wonderful tension in the story between following procedure and finding out the truth. The author has done a great job in creating an ensemble of fully realized characters, from the sarcastic medics to the manly silence of the ladder crew. The author’s descriptions of the fires are so graphic you can even smell the smoke. It was a satisfying read and even left me feeling a little bit nostalgic for these very real and very fictional characters and their world.

Is Between the Ocean and the Stars worth reading?

I borrowed this book to my three friends and each of them texted me at 2AM asking for more. This book gets under your skin. The prose is very simple, but with great precision, just like the author chose every comma intentionally. The themes of redemption and forgiveness are embedded in the story without being heavy-handed. It is melancholic. I wouldn’t call it depressing, though. It’s a very melancholic book. It will make you want to stay up all night and then stare at the ceiling thinking about your own “oceans” and “stars”. Worth reading? Yes.

Who are the main characters in The Moon Sister?

6 Answers2025-11-12
This novel follows the double helix of Thea and Electra’s stories. While other characters support them on their individual journeys, Thea is primarily on a quest of self-discovery and Electra is driven by her passion. Both of these women are main characters in every sense of the word, and taking either of them out of the novel would cause the entire thing to fall apart.

What is the plot summary of Dawn of Wonder?

4 Answers2025-11-11
Aedan’s story in ‘Dawn of Wonder’ follows the young man after his home has been destroyed by slavers. Rage and cunning get him into the famous academy, where he is pushed to his limits in the most intense training scenes. However, it are the quiet moments between these scenes that show most growth, like his strange bond with a stray dog, and his complicated views on authority. The looming figure of the Fury is, of course, the biggest threat, but Renshaw has written all his characters up so well in dialogue that even the smallest of them are memorable. This is a big book, but every chapter was so needed.

What is the plot of Blossoms of the White Night?

This was a divisive end to a book. I didn’t hate it though. In fact, I loved it. It wasn’t a big battle between good and evil. It wasn’t even a duel between our hero and the big bad. Instead, the climax was a public debate in which our heroine laid out all of her research to a crowded room of scholars. And then – resolution! – they believed her. The truth was enough to break the curse that had been ‘afflicting’ the duke and allowing him to twist and abuse the twilight in order to survive. And then, after that, the duke wasn’t ‘cured’ of his twilight affinity. Instead, he and the land around him slowly, painfully transitioned to a healthy balance of twilight and daylight. And then, in the end, he tended a new garden, full of vibrant, wonderful life, with the heroine. It was a very quiet, very intellectual, very emotional victory. Many readers felt that this was an anticlimactic ending to the book. But for me, it was completely satisfying, because it was so true to this book’s core concept: that the only way to win was through understanding.

What is the plot summary of The Burrow novel?

5 Answers2025-12-05
There’s a lot of novels that make you check over your shoulder while reading ‘The Burrow’ is one of them. Four friends dared each other to map out their cave, or burrow, and the next night the layout had changed. What follows is the struggle of the four friends to maintain trust as they try to work out whether they’re just being paranoid or whether something supernatural is going on. The dialogue between the teenagers is particularly great as they argue between logic and fear. One of the most surprising moments for me was when a character suddenly disappeared mid-sentence, and the others frantically try to explain away what’s just happened. The ending is left somewhat open to interpretation, but just gives you enough to keep speculating long after you’ve finished reading the book.
