I approached ‘Between the Ocean and the Stars’ with healthy skepticism given the cover blurb, but was surprised by the quietly fantastical read that ensued. The ocean is a vivid and almost bodily presence, at times whispering secrets and changeable moods. The star imagery that weaves throughout the book is equally beautiful and more importantly cohesive in a deeply poetic but never pretentious way.

As an aside, I thought that the novel did a great job of portraying loneliness. Not as some overwrought, fictionalized version of isolation, but rather as a dull, weighty ache. In one particularly powerful scene, our protagonist stares at his phone for what feels like an eternity, willing it to light up. It was a devastating moment, one that really affected me. If you’re looking for a novel to escape into, this may not be the book for you. But if you’re looking for a book that can be therapeutic, then look no further.

I borrowed this book to my three friends and each of them texted me at 2AM asking for more. This book gets under your skin. The prose is very simple, but with great precision, just like the author chose every comma intentionally. The themes of redemption and forgiveness are embedded in the story without being heavy-handed.

It is melancholic. I wouldn’t call it depressing, though. It’s a very melancholic book. It will make you want to stay up all night and then stare at the ceiling thinking about your own “oceans” and “stars”. Worth reading? Yes.

This book was another random pick, and I loved it. The poetic writing and deep exploration of the protagonist’s emotional pain is so similar to The Starless Sea, but with a much grittier and more grounded feel. I had a lot of trouble in the middle of the book because the pacing slowed so much and the protagonist had to deal with so much pain and conflict as he tried to come to terms with his past and figure out his future. I also struggled a bit with some of the dream sequences, because they were pretty abstract and they really wanted to explore the themes of memory and identity.

What really stuck with me was the ending. I won’t give it away, but the book wraps up in a way that really makes you re-read large sections of the novel in order to appreciate how everything connects. This is definitely a book that requires patience and rewards it in abundance. I’m looking to re-read this within the year.

I read this book today and it was pure magic. The writing is very wave-like – some parts gentle and others crashing – and I was completely swept under. I’m not really a slow-burn sort of person but this book was so beautifully written that the author built up tension with the tiniest of moments (a look, a song). The supporting characters are fully realized as well and their relationships with the main character are so real, messy and beautiful.

I agree with other critics who call this book ‘atmospheric’. It’s not a fast-paced plot-driven story, rather a slow and often beautiful exploration of characters and world that will keep you engaged and maybe even make you think. My only criticism of the book would be that the middle meandered a bit – but those last 50 pages or so were so worth it. A great book for a rainy day, or for someone looking for a long, hand-held story.

Is 'To the Ends of the Earth' worth reading?

I was very close to putting down ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ by Victor Ostrovsky after 50 pages or so of the book. Ostrovsky’s protaganist is just so passive. Why doesn’t she do anything? Eventually though I got it. Waiting is the action of this book. There are lots of moments in between the large actions where the real change happens. His writing is so immersive that I found myself aware of small moments that occur in my life too: the way the light looks in the late afternoon; the wonderful friendship that develops with a stranger on a bus where you sit next to each other. It’s not a fast-paced book that you can read in one sitting. It’s a book that you enter into and when you finally finish it, you feel like you’ve just returned from a trip – a bit disoriented but richer for the experience.

Is Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother worth reading?

11 Answers2025-12-19
It was nice that the female lead had her own career and life outside of the romance. She wasn't just waiting around for some hockey star to save her. She worked in marketing or PR (I'm not really sure) and her career actually came into play during the story. I thought it was nice because she had something to gain from their fake dating arrangement from a professional standpoint. The female lead in the story had a career of her own outside of her romantic relationship. In this case, her career is in marketing or PR and her work at it played into the plot of the story and gave her a logical reason for her acceptance of the fake dating agreement from a career standpoint. Her active participation and the skills she brought to the table meant that there wasn’t an unfair power dynamic in the relationship. Too often in these types of stories the wealthy love interest has all of the power and the poor protagonist is along for the ride.

Is Humanity Lost worth reading?

3 Answers2026-03-14
I borrowed ‘Is Humanity Lost’ as I liked the look of the cover. Although it was described as a book about the collapse of society, it felt very personal and most of the book focused on the downfall of individual people. The side characters were particularly well drawn and one of the chapters was from the point of view of a side character in his final days on Earth. It was so raw that I had to put the book down for a while to collect myself. Not a happy book, but if you are in the mood for something more serious and thought-provoking then this is a great choice to read. Just make sure you have something more pleasant to read straight after it though.

Where can I read 'Swallowed Star 2: Land of Origin' for free?

That's a million dollar question for many web novel readers. Some online libraries and university libraries have partnered with platforms such as OverDrive, where you can access Webnovel content through your library’s subscription. Usually these are not publicized, and you’d have to go into your local library’s digital portal and look for comics and novels. Besides not being free, usually there’s a large trade-off between time and money, so you could write a review of the content and then engage with the content on Webnovel to get rewards in the form of coins, which can grant access to paid content for free. That’s not really free, but it’s more of a time+effort tradeoff than cold hard cash.

Is Traces of the Sun: English Edition worth reading?

5 Answers2026-01-13
The audiobook is surprisingly well done. The narrator does a great job of making sure you can tell when a different character is speaking, and he does a great job of explaining the solar traces and other technical terms that I had a hard time understanding when reading the book. The sound quality is very professional, and he even includes background music during the intense parts to make them even more immersive. It made for a great listen on my commute, and helped to really bring the world to life, especially in the more methodical world-building parts of the story. If you are on the fence between using credits to listen to this or reading the text version, I recommend going for the audio book first and see if it ‘connects’ with you. The performance definitely adds a layer of emotion that isn’t present in the straight text version.

Does ocean books pdf have an official audiobook version?

9 Answers2025-08-09
My answer is negative. I think that with the right narrator, this could be a fantastic audio book. A historical book can be so much better than it is in print if it has a great narrator. A fantasy book can become an epic. This book has that potential but without the publisher stumping up for the cost of the narrator, I don’t think it will happen. I’ve seen no industry reports of the audio rights for this title being picked up and those deals are generally reported in trade publications such as Publishers Weekly. The lack of any reports in the industry is more corroborating evidence that, for now, it is not going to happen.

What is the plot summary of Between Sun and Moon?

11 Answers2025-11-28
At its heart, this conflict isn’t one that is solved through war, but instead through a magically binding trial before a neutral, celestial court. The story follows the two young and inexperienced advocates for the Sun and Moon as they travel the cosmos, gathering evidence and calling witnesses to several different mythic locations. All of their discoveries must then be used to present a case in court based on the ancient laws of divine origin that were used to create the two. As the case heats up, one of the advocates will find himself growing more and more attached to a key witness for the opposing side, putting his case in jeopardy. The plot is the investigation into the cause of the opposing side’s actions and the tense, procedural drama of the actual trial. The fate of two realms will depend on the smallest of legal technicalities and a single effective argument. Weirdly compelling.

Could this be on Novel Updates? Although Novel Updates primarily follows translations of Asian novels, they also have a forum for readers of original English stories on various websites, and have a 'where to read' section on the Novel Updates forum for such stories. As this is a community of people who read serialized fiction online, they would likely know of a story such as this, even if it weren't a translation, and you could ask them for information on it. Novel Updates is a great site for serialized fiction readers. Even if the Novel you’re looking for isn’t a translation, Novel Updates is usually a good place to start looking for readers who know the various Novel communities and platforms, both legitimate and otherwise. We don’t allow pirated versions of any Novel on our site, but we do allow discussions of them on legitimate platforms. It’s easier to get answers from knowledgeable readers in specialized communities like this one rather than a more general book community. These folks live and breathe Novel apps and sites. They’ll know of any loopholes or lesser known sites where a Novel might be hosted.

Is The Falconer worth reading? Review

3 Answers2026-03-10
I just finished reading ‘The Falconer’ by Kiersten White (published as May under her real name). Oh, Aileana’s story is just fabulous. It’s kind of like Pride and Prejudice with lots of fighting against monsters in the streets. The first part of the book is set in some very elegant ballrooms, and the second part is covered in blood in some of the darker alleys. White does a great job of writing. Many times the very gritty world that she’s created can be very harsh, but White always manages to add in these very touching moments of Aileana’s, usually when she’s thinking about her mother or feeling grief. The faerie lore was very original as well. Many of the creatures were inspired by the Scottish myths, but they were twisted in very unique ways. My only problem with the book was that I felt that the world-building needed a bit more explanation at the beginning. But overall, I thought that it was a fantastic book. If you’re looking for a heroine who is going to more likely stab a faerie than lose her heart to one, then this book is for you.
