Apps and websites such as Webnovel and Wattpad have a number of free-to-read romance novels. While most of the novels are not free to read to the end, many of them do offer a number of free chapters at the beginning, and then go to a model of free to read each day for a set number of pages, or with ads. I had been searching for hockey novels recently, and I found ‘Fake Dating My Ex’s Favourite Hockey Player’. This was a really entertaining novel, with a chaotic number of characters, especially the whole hockey team, as well as the ex-boyfriend, who tries to interfere with their fake dating scheme in really hilariously complicated ways. The novel is usually posted on these free-to-read sites with the first few chapters being free to read.

I become a book detective and search for “Fake Dating My Ex’s Hockey Star Brother”. The title alone promises a lot of drama and accidentally shared locker room moments. As far as I can find, full free copies of this book are hard to come by. There are some Goodreads groups that exchange e-books (in .EPUB format), and then there’s Archive.org’s lending library, which might have a copy too. On Reddit, in the r/romancebooks community, there’s also a thread where users post about free e-book alerts for romance novels.

Proxo sites seem to mirror the paid content on authors’ sites and contain lots of malware. Follow the author on Twitter as they often hold giveaways for their books. In the meantime, hunt out ‘hockey romance’ on Rakuten Kobo, as many of these titles are available as ‘free with subscription’. I must confess that I am a guilty fan of hockey romances – so much drama and so many accidental sharing of locker room moments!

Looking for free reads to add to your collection can be an exciting adventure! For this particular book, I found the author on Instagram and believe the author was promoting ‘subscribe for free chapters’ in order to promote the rest of the book. There are also Telegram book channels floating around, just be cautious and active in the conversation or it will be dead in a few days.

Honestly though nothing beats libby if your library is carrying it. I also like to swap with other book lovers – I traded a copy of this to a friend for mango smoothies. Enemies-to-lovers action on ice is just the best and you need to see all the glares for yourself.

I’ve been on a similar mission for free reads in the past. “Fake Dating My Ex’s Hockey Star Brother” sounds like another of those addicting tropes I stumble upon at 2 AM while browsing the internet for more free reads. Unfortunately I don’t have any links to any “under the surface” sites that would host such novels, but I do know that Webnovel and Wattpad host a large collection of fan-written novels, as well as early drafts of novels written by published authors.

If you're willing to explore options outside of the typical free read sites, Scribd is currently offering free trials and you can also download free books from your local library and read them through their apps such as Libby. Supporting our favorite authors is the best, and trust me those hockey romance twists don’t write themselves but I would suggest starting with #hockeyromance on Wattpad and seeing what others have written!

Ugh, it’s one of those tropes for me. In the meantime, I have spent hours searching for it. Official free chapters usually can be found on the author’s website or on their Patreon. Occasionally, indie authors even put up the first few chapters of their book as a teaser. Sometimes, the free chapters are shared on Tumblr fan communities as PDFs (I won’t tell).

On a different note, Kindle Unlimited offers a free month’s trial so I can binge read lots of similar novels like ‘Pucking Around’ and ‘The Deal’. Library Genesis is tempting too, but I’m not really sure it’s legal or not. My rule is to support an author and buy a novel I loved and hope to hype it for others. I know there’s a big romance Discord and I’ve heard they’ll DM you with all sorts of creative solutions to get you your fix. Cough.

Is Fake Dating My Ex's Hockey Star Brother worth reading?

It was nice that the female lead had her own career and life outside of the romance. She wasn't just waiting around for some hockey star to save her. She worked in marketing or PR (I'm not really sure) and her career actually came into play during the story. I thought it was nice because she had something to gain from their fake dating arrangement from a professional standpoint. The female lead in the story had a career of her own outside of her romantic relationship. In this case, her career is in marketing or PR and her work at it played into the plot of the story and gave her a logical reason for her acceptance of the fake dating agreement from a career standpoint. Her active participation and the skills she brought to the table meant that there wasn’t an unfair power dynamic in the relationship. Too often in these types of stories the wealthy love interest has all of the power and the poor protagonist is along for the ride.

Can you recommend hockey romance novels with fake dating plots?

Yes! While many readers wish to devour the huge on-going series (also available on Kindle Unlimited), there are so many delightful, independent published and even smaller pub authors who nail the hockey world so beautifully as well. The romance authors such as Cathryn Fox, Teagan Hunter and Sara Ney publish huge hockey-themed romance series with lots of fake-dating, all centered around the hockey team of one of the main male heroes in each book of the series. While there can be some slight variations in how outlandish the premise of the fake-dating can get (ie: pretend to get engaged to help the heroine get her hands on an inheritance; pretend to be the heroine’s wife in order to help her get a visa to live in the hero’s country), the real meat of these wonderful books centers around the heartwarming, as well as many times humorous, hockey world. There are tons of books, with many 3+ book series about the individual heroes on the same team. So, while there can be many degrees of hotness in the many published hockey-themed romance books, as well as tons of sports-romance cliche’s galore (ie: why we love them in the first place), it’s so wonderful to be able to devour hundreds of pages of hockey-romance bliss for every season of the year.

Where can I read 'Falling for My Boyfriend's Navy SEAL Brother' online?

This romance is very culturally specific, even though it’s about an American Navy SEAL. There are many parts of the story telling that are very typical of translated East Asian web novels. I actually feel like this would be best read on Webnovel, because it is a web novel platform that hosts many novels of this exact style and length. The translation is probably done with the typical East Asian web novel reader in mind, so that’s just another plus for readers of that style of fiction.

This may be a regional licensing issue. As someone who lives in Canada, I occasionally find that stories that my US/UK friends can access on an app are not available to me. I've had friends send me direct links to stories they're reading on an app, only to find that I receive a message stating that the content is not available in my region. The mess of publishing rights for digital content is so complex. You might try setting your VPN to a US location and seeing if you can find and access the title within the app's catalog (since the title is presumably available on the app in the US). This approach worked for me with video and music streaming services, so it's not an entirely out-of-left-field ask for a service delivering serialized fiction locked behind various geo-restricted content deals.

Is Fake Mating To My Ex's Powerful Enemy worth reading?

9 Answers2025-12-19
I've seen this one floating around on my feed. Algorithm tends to throw it at me now. Premise is a little too juicy for me to ignore, but overall it reads as somewhat too dramatic for my tastes (fake mating, ex's enemy, etc.). I gave the first few chapters a read simply out of curiosity, but the initial setup does read somewhat tense as the main character tries to avoid social disaster. Prose is readably simple, though the rest of the emotional developments follow fairly predictably from there. Trashy read that I couldn't look away from is the best way I'd describe this. It's not literature by any stretch of the imagination, but it's very Guilty Pleasure. Main draw to me is the exploration of power dynamics, and the author certainly gets a lot of mileage out of them. All in all, very trashy, very over-the-top, extremely fast-paced romantic drama. Just don't go in here expecting too much in terms of character development.

Where can I read 'screw my childhood sweetheart—his alpha brother marked me first'?

Ooh, this title is so visually descriptive that I can imagine the plot unfold before my very eyes - especially the pivotal scene of the biting. Was it done in anger? Passion? Protection? The 'first' makes one wonder if there's going to be a 'second' - perhaps the author will depict the childhood sweetheart's desperate attempt to re-gain what he perceives to be lost. A complex, messy love triangle/ graph of emotions awaits, with so much potential for pain and heartache. However, the author would have to be extremely talented to successfully depict a rejected party who is NOT a villain, but rather, a tragic figure. Most would read a story like this for simple wish-fulfillment, but the author's skill would be to make the reader care for all 3 parties involved.

Where can I read Holiday Hockey Tale: The Icebreaker's Impasse?

You can check the author's Linktree in their bio to find a direct link to the FicFlow story page. Sometimes this link is buried under ‘My Works’ or ‘Current Serials’ in the author’s Linktree, so be sure to check there for the most reliable link to download the story. Don’t rely on random blog links that claim to have a PDF version of the story for download – these are likely to be scams that can download malware to your computer. They’d especially try to trick people reading a story that’s received moderate attention.

Where can I read 'Swallowed Star 2: Land of Origin' for free?

That's a million dollar question for many web novel readers. Some online libraries and university libraries have partnered with platforms such as OverDrive, where you can access Webnovel content through your library’s subscription. Usually these are not publicized, and you’d have to go into your local library’s digital portal and look for comics and novels. Besides not being free, usually there’s a large trade-off between time and money, so you could write a review of the content and then engage with the content on Webnovel to get rewards in the form of coins, which can grant access to paid content for free. That’s not really free, but it’s more of a time+effort tradeoff than cold hard cash.

Where can I read 'The Alpha Brothers Claimed Omega'?

Beats me! Like I said, I stick to quality stuff that’s been published on Audible these days. It’s better quality control and I don’t have to worry about links not working or whether the author ever finishes the story. Searching for free online serials just got too crazy for me. But hey, that’s just me!
