All of the 'Holes' PDFs I’ve found are pretty text-heavy, since the story itself is in the words of Louis Sachar and not reliant on illustrations for the main story. There was one teacher’s edition that had very small diagrams for the digging configurations and timelines for the story, but that was about it for extras.
If you need something more to look at while you listen, the audiobook is great. But for PDF lovers, this is a great, text-heavy story. No extra art is needed to tell this great adventure. The original PDF is lean and mean and a great read.

I don't know how many chapters there actually are in this book. They all seem to blend together because each chapter follows the story well into the next. I enjoyed the movie adaptation as well. It was a great adaptation because it was condensed to fit into the time of a movie but still managed to get across the spirit of the book. I'm pretty curious to re-read this and find out all of the clever ways that the author set up the structure of the story that nobody has ever mentioned before. I had no idea that a children's book could be so complex beneath the surface of such a simple read.

I use book price tracking websites to help me track books (eReaderIQ for Amazon and BookBub for deals on multiple platforms). I can set up alerts for specific books or authors, and then they’ll email me when the book goes on sale (for example, when “Famesick” goes free or drops to $0.99). This is how I’ve managed to download and keep many bestselling books and novels, all 100% legally, for free or for almost nothing. Publishers do these kinds of promotions all the time to get more visibility for new books in a series or for older books. It can take some time to track down what you want, but it’s worth it in the end to get a high-quality copy of a book that you can keep for good.

Honestly, who cares? A good book is a good book. I left this on the coffee table and my dad just finished reading it. He’s 65.

My last thought for the day concerns discoverability vs. deprivation. I do think that piracy often serves as a discovery model for authors – allowing readers to ‘try before they buy’. However, very quickly it can devolve into depravation – people consuming media without ever contributing to the author’s earnings in any way. This ‘discovery’ model needs to transition into ‘supporting this author’. So you used that free PDF to ‘try’ an author – great! Now support them if you like their work. Buy their next book, pre-order it, get it from the library (since they paid the license for you), spread the word online… discover an author via the free sample, then become a paying reader for subsequent work by that author. That’s a sustainable relationship for the stories you love.

As a tech enthusiast I have explored many of the various sites to download PDFs. Of the various sites to download PDFs that I have tested, the Open Books section of Archive.org is without a doubt the most powerful, with a huge collection of historical and modern literature. It’s a non-profit, ad-free site, run by a group of volunteers, making it a very clean and simple site to use.
A curated PDF experience for the tech enthusiast can be found at Feedbooks’ Public Domain e-Books, nicely formatted PDFs and clearly described sources. HathiTrust Digital Library, partnering with universities around the world to provide full access to millions of titles, is safe for in-depth reading into all manner of scholarly work. The sites that score well on safety and content are favorites of the tech-savvy reader looking for an efficient and reliable reading experience.

And if this were really happening, the lawyers involved would be legendary, hopefully good. This kid was sent to a labor camp in the middle of the desert for a pair of shoes he didn't steal. The warden is making a manicure with rattlesnake venom. A juvenile detainee is claiming a treasure that's been lost for decades. All of this is a stylized narrative. The truth to the story is that there are times when you have to stand up for yourself. You have to dig. And that's not just a metaphor. You have to dig. Sometimes you have to dig a hole and then get back out of it. But in order to break this kind of cycle you have to make your own luck.

In the grand scheme of things the controversy over this book is pretty small compared to its legacy. The book has sold millions of copies world wide. There was a major motion picture made from it. The book is found on the shelves of most libraries and is considered a classic of youth literature. The attempts to ban the book are just a footnote in the book’s Wikipedia article.
What endures in the reader's mind long after the controversy has passed is the ingenious framework of the novel and its vividly imagined characters. Read and reread for decades on end, the satisfaction ofwatching all the separate storylines fall into place is one of the greatest pleasures of reading for a young person – or of any age.
Others can frown upon this class of literature all they wish to; they are just opposing the wrong side of history on a really wonderful, fun, and highly constructed young person’s literature. In the meantime, I shall be munching on my onions and enjoying this great story.

My skepticism here is probably best expressed by saying that there are very few high quality websites that have the very latest free PDF versions of the major medical textbooks. And, by definition, these sites are either operating in some kind of legal gray area or else violating the copyright holders' rights. Often the domain changes frequently, it's chock full of ads, and the files themselves may be corrupted.
This brings me to the issue of advocating for and supporting open access publishing in medicine. Until that time, we’re stuck with work-arounds. Right now, for me, this means using my library, buying second-hand editions of older textbooks, and reading great review articles published in free online journals such as the BMJ and PLOS. A single good review article will usually contain the equivalent of one textbook chapter and provide lots of references to read more on the subject.

For Pete's sake, this question again. Use the search function on the AO3. That's how you find things. Nobody wants to have to work for their fanfiction. They want it all handed to them on a silver platter. That's not fun. Finding hidden gems within the tags on a story is fun. Being lazy is not.
