First off, the cover art for this novel is simply delightful. I had an idea of what kind of story this would be, based on the artwork. Sweet, a little bit silly, with lots of steamy romance. This novel was exactly that, and so much more. The sex scenes in this novel were as warm and fun to read as the rest of the book. They were never trite or boring, and they had just the right amount of playfulness to them to keep things from getting too serious or hot. I loved this novel because it was so much fun to read. The author never took himself too seriously, but he did take his characters’ feelings very seriously, which was great.

Yuri and Aya are my new book boyfriend/girlfriend. I really like them because Yuri is this really gentle and dominant person and Aya is just so eager to please and vulnerable. I haven’t read many couples in this genre who are so fully realized and have desires that go beyond just sex. I can really see how their relationship would linger with you even while you’re reading their story and make for a really great and relatable fantasy.

I like stories to have a “home” online and Manta is the dedicated, well-moderated “home” for this story. The comments section at the end of each chapter is active with readers initially cataloging all of the symbolism and then later in the chapter expressing their feelings about what happened. I find reading a story online to be far more than just reading the words when I can be reading it with a community of readers experiencing the same emotions and anticipation week after week. On aggregator sites, that would just be a blank page of text – no comments, no social experience of reading. Dew in stories? That’s nature’s sticky note. The tiny, ephemeral stuff is full of meaning. I think kids’ books use dew a lot to show wonder – e.g. Wilbur’s web sparkling in the early morning sun in ‘Charlotte’s Web’. Horror stories on the other hand can make dew seem sinister, damp and frightening. This is all about perspective. A farmer might look at dew and see promise of future crops. A heartbroken hero might look at the same dew and see all his lost love disappearing before his eyes. Dew is magic because it can mean whatever you like it to mean without explanation.

I just finished reading ‘Death at Morning House’ – a superb mystery novel that hooked me from the start. It’s set in and around Morning House, a large and rather eerie house with a dark history, owned by the very wealthy and rather unpopular Mr. Holloway of the Holloway family. When he is found dead in rather strange circumstances, young and recently appointed detective Clara Reeves is sent for. And from the very first chapter, I was hooked. As Clara delves deeper into the mystery of the death of the patriarch of the Holloway family, she realises that nothing is as it seems. The house itself seems to be a character in the story and it has hidden passages and secret rooms, creaking floorboards and more than a few dark secrets. And as for the Holloway family, well it seems that each and every one of them is hiding secrets of their own. But are these secrets human or is Morning House really haunted by the spirits of the past? Throughout the novel Reeves uncovers the web of deceit, long-standing grudges and twisted relationships that exist within the Holloway family. The way in which the author creates claustrophobia as a raging storm hits is incredible. Reeves is left to deal with the family trapped inside the crumbling mansion and it makes for tense reading as Reeves makes mistakes along the way and we are led down many a red herring. In the end the author delivers a satisfying solution but it leaves you with the feeling that Morning House still holds many secrets and the author has done a great job of delivering a gothic style mystery that will appeal to fans of the style. A great read.

I've given up trying to keep my bookmarks up to date for this series. The links all die pretty quickly and so I've stopped renaming them. Now I just call them 'Site A (dead)', 'Site B (pop-up hell)', 'Site C (good but only up to ch 30)'. It's a bit of a digital archaeological project really. Reading this series is a bit of a nomadic experience. I'll read a section on one site and then it'll be taken down before I can read the next. I'm hoping that the sections that are currently good will all get transferred to a new, legitimate, site within the next year or two, but until then, if you're not prepared to deal with the instability of a series that hasn't yet crossed over into official English yet, then this series isn't for you. Come back in a year or two.

There’s this really pretty cover for this series of novels. It’s a woman in the center and she’s surrounded by these gorgeous, glowing men. Some of them have animal features but they’re all really pretty. The books are all really pretty too. Every now and then I look at the cover of Spoiled by My Nine Beast Husbands and start to imagine the story. My imagination for the story of Spoiled by My Nine Beast Husbands might even be better than the actual story. That would be the ultimate free version of the book – just making it up as I go along. I could make up whatever I want – the plot could go however I want it to, the pacing could be whatever I want it to be, and I could make up the personalities of the nine husbands to be whatever I want them to be. There’s no paywalls to get in the way or bad translations to get in the way of my imagination. Maybe my desire to read this for free is just my desire to play in this one woman’s fantasy world and I don’t need the text of the book for that.

Does Juice Newton get paid every time Deadpool is shown/played and she thinks to herself “Deadpool again?” Her song has served a second life that I think she would find quite intriguing to see how it has transcended the album it was written for. You can map out the high points of our pop culture to the times this song appeared in a scene: the indie drama of the 1990s, the teen soap of the 2000s, the ironic superhero of the 2010s, the current state of nostalgia as a fully formed industrial complex. That the song is about a secret goodbye is sort of wonderful given this.
