So, most of the really good stories are scattered around on different sites. Most of the time, I just go straight to the aggregator apps to start hunting for new stories. This week, I discovered that “CHOSEN BY THE CURSED ALPHA KING” is a full free read on one of the platforms that I use. This story is about a human doctor who gets transported to a royal shifter court, and has to deal with the leader of the court, a lethal, yet quirky, cursed alpha king. The normal ‘chosen one’ setup has a lot of medical twists and turns that makes the story tense and very different from most other stories of this type.

Supporting authors is important to me, so I went to the official publisher’s website first to find out about free e-copies, and it looks like this novel is available on Radish with timed free releases, so it’s mostly free if you’re patient.

Alternatively, NovelFull is another free site for authors that has a ‘fan upload’ section for free full novels. While I have encountered some lower quality work here, Radish’s consistent and polished formatting wins out in the end. Not only that, but the way Radish does new chapter releases makes it really hard to put down, and I may have stayed up late a few times, hitting the alarm clock to read more (I mean, it was really late, and I hit the snooze button a lot).

Finding “When the Alpha King Chose Me” was a long and winding road for me, and ultimately I think my favorite way to read it was on WebNovel because it was so cleanly formatted and there were so many active commenters, constantly debating plot points and skewing my interpretation.

Dreame and GoodNovel are also apps where you can read it. But it seems some chapters are locked for us to read if we don’t pay for them. I have stayed up night after night binge reading this because the tension between the leads is insane. Definitely worth reading.

For the audiobook inclined, there are a few amateur narrations on YouTube for this story. And oh man, the politics of the werewolves are so in depth, I actually drew fanart for the main characters while I was reading it. I even want to go back to Chapter 12 of this right now.

I read this book on Dreame. Download, search, read. You can read the first few chapters for free to get hooked, then you hit the paywall. Each locked chapter shows how many coins it costs and you can buy coins in bundles. The model isn’t really reader friendly if you’re used to paying for a whole book rather than coins for individual chapters. However, that is how most of the apps work. The story itself is really dramatic, very romantic and extremely addictive. The writing is excellent and knows exactly what you want and delivers it consistently. If you are looking for a book with a possessive alpha male and a strong female lead in a supernatural setting then Dreame is the one stop shop for this story and many more similar stories.

Dreame is really great for reading novels, better than Webnovel in my opinion. For one, unlike Webnovel which has a pretty even split between Eastern and Western novels, Dreame is almost entirely Western novels, especially romance and paranormal novels. This novel is a perfect example of the type of novel that is published on Dreame. The site itself is very feminine-coded with lots of pastel colors and lots of images that are really romantic and immersive. That's the environment that this novel is read in, and I think it's really cool. There's no hard sci-fi, no epic fantasy novels recommended on this site. It's all different sub-genres of romance novels. But that the site focuses so much on one genre is actually really good at what it does, because it means that instead of having to search through a million different categories and novice novels, you can just find what you know you like. This novel is not just hosted on Dreame, it's the home for this type of novel.

Based on my reading so far of this novel, I believe it was written to be read in this app first, so it would be best read in Dreame format. I downloaded this novel off of Dreame after seeing a bunch of TikToks promoting it. From what I can tell, that is where the majority of the novel’s marketing is taking place. As for the app itself, it is free to download and you can read a pretty large chunk of the story for free with your daily passes. If you find yourself impatient to read more, the coin prices can start to add up. I’ve found that reading the website version of the novel on a computer sometimes feels less ad-pitchy than reading on mobile. Maybe that’s just me though. This novel is a classic of the genre, featuring tons of misunderstandings, possessive behavior, and lots of fiery chemistry between the two leads. If you’re into that sort of thing, Dreame does a great job of delivering a standard issue story in easily consumable, episodic chunks that are perfect for reading on the go or before bed.

I personally thought it would be released as an eBook to purchase and read on Kindle, but I did a pretty extensive search and it looks like it’s only available through the Dreame app on tablet. The reading experience is actually pretty great on tablet, though. The text is clearly readable, pages turn smoothly, and even has a ‘night mode’ with a dark background to read with which is a lot better for my eyes. The real downside to this is the relentless push to spend money within the app. Every few chapters or so you get prompted to buy a ‘coin bundle’ or to subscribe to a premium membership. These can be dismissed to continue reading, but it really does break immersion from the story to be constantly offered ways to part with your cash. However, the story is really great fun and is very dramatic so it’s worth the ‘business model’ of the app as long as you go in with your eyes open!
