As a new fan, I've just found Magic Academy Genius Blinker and got totally hooked—does anyone track its weekly chapter drops or irregular updates?

The digital chapters are updated mostly on a biweekly basis, while the print volumes come out in four month intervals. The updates for this series are all over the place. Sometimes it’s on a weekly update schedule, but then there will be a 3 week gap before it updates again. I’ve been told the creator of the series is working on another top secret project which is probably why the updates are so inconsistent. I can confirm that anniversary chapters for this series do contain more color, including-full page-spreads (such as April 12th). I know the English simulpub of this series is about 10 days behind the original release but that’s way faster than the fan scanlated versions of the series. Last month the fan scanlaters actually even included translator notes that revealed the real occult symbols referenced in Chapter 44 of the series. It would be awesome if the official simulpub included notes like that to really dive deep into the creator’s intent.

‘Magic Academy Genius Blinker’ has been a series I’ve kept track of. New chapters are released on the official site of the series’ publisher every two weeks or so. Fan translations typically take an additional week to be translated but are generally up within a week. I recall the time the author went on hiatus for a month and how the entire fandom lost their minds until the author came back. The memories and all the memes that came with it are still alive in my mind.

It is kind of cool that the release of chapters is tied to magic holidays such as Halloween or solstices. The last arc was even a double chapter to celebrate reaching a milestone in the series. The author’s blog is also pretty cool as it hints at a potential release of a seasonal anthology next year. I really hope that does happen.

I've seen worse. The author hasn't yet gone on permanent hiatus or dropped the book entirely, and there are occasional updates. I consider that enough for it to be listed as active, as opposed to some of my other favorite dropped series that are stuck on the same cliffhanger for years with no signs of life.

I just saw that Chapter 47 was posted to the official site yesterday, so maybe Chapter 48 is ready to go too? I’m hesitant to quote that though, because I went and looked at the update history for the site and it looks like clusters of updates. January had 3 chapters, Feb had 0, March had 1 early in the month, and now this chapter in March. It doesn’t look like a set schedule to me, more like periodic bursts of activity, and it makes it really hard to get invested in a story week to week.

Maybe this is even the author’s intention – to make every chapter a big event. Discussion threads for this series are always extremely active for days after a chapter is released, dissecting every single line.

So a realistic expectation would be to see about 1-2 chapters per month, but keep in mind that a whole month can go by with no updates. This one does require patience.

This novel has been consistently great for a long time and the author seems to be determined to finish it off his own way, even if it’s going to be very slow. I stopped trying to keep track of it and just check my library for updates every Sunday. Sometimes there’s a new installment added and sometimes there isn’t. I know that the lack of consistency with updates is a major complaint in the comments for this series, but the story is so good and the pacing is so bad for a reader that I’ve started to read other series that are updated on a regular basis in order to fill the time until the next installment of this one comes out.
