Why Was RubyGloom Cancelled?

Only got halfway through the series finale and I'm devastated! Was it low ratings, network decisions, or something else entirely?

'RubyGloom' is a web novel, which means it wasn’t cancelled in the classical sense. Rather, the author must have dropped it at some point because he just lost interest or had more important things to attend to in his life. (This happens a lot, and it’s pretty annoying.) On the other hand, the following story is a really interesting, unconventional take on the royal story, and it’s actually been completed: ‘Rejected Dragon Queen’. A monarch who’s rejected by her court because she’s too weak to rule in the typical fashion, later finds out that her real strength all along was in the alliances that she built instead. A fully-realized story, so you won’t have to worry about it getting abandoned mid-arc.

It’s been a while since RubyGloom was cancelled, and it still kind of hurts. RubyGloom was such a little, weird, jewel-covered gem. It had a great mix of strange and sweet, but RubyGloom was also kind of a forward thinker in terms of animation styles, and Gothic animation just wasn’t something that most networks were looking to get into at the time. I’ve heard rumors that there were some major creative differences between the people running RubyGloom and the executives at the network, with the RubyGloom team wanting to go a lot darker and the network wanting to keep it more “safe” for kids. Regardless, we were left with only 26 episodes of this very strange, very wonderful show. The 26 episodes that were made, however, are just fabulous. The show is a master class in very strange, very niche storytelling, and it has aged incredibly well. In fact, every year at Halloween, I rewatch the entire series, hoping that somewhere along the line, more episodes were made than I realize.

RubyGloom is one of those shows that I remember watching and it was so unique and quirky and then it just kind of stopped. It’s one of those shows that I sometimes go back and watch every now and then and every time I do I think, “What could have been if this show got a second season?” RubyGloom is a show about a group of monsters and they’re all different and they’re all at this school together and they’re just trying to navigate through school and life as monsters and it was really, really unique and quirky and it had a really gothic feel to it. The voice acting and character design were both really fantastic and I especially loved Ruby, she had this really deadpan personality and I just loved her to pieces.

I think part of the reason for RubyGloom’s failure to gain traction was the time at which it premiered. Darker cartoons haven’t really found their way into the mainstream yet (with shows like ‘The Owl House’ and ‘Infinity Train’ there is hope though). At the time RubyGloom was aired networks were somewhat skeptical of cartoons that didn’t fit into the traditional mold of children’s television. Add to this the poor merch sales (I never saw any RubyGloom action figures or other toys etc. for sale) and you have a cartoon that for some reason just didn’t find an audience. Yet another cult classic waiting to be discovered by a passionate fan base of misfit characters.

It’s sort of been stated already that RubyGloom got cancelled for being in the wrong time slot. While it had the flavor and aesthetic of a Tim Burton- style cartoon, the network it aired on did not know how to handle it. Other fans have hypothesized that the low budget for RubyGloom had a lot to do with it. While it wasn’t the lowest quality animation I’ve ever seen, you could tell that RubyGloom was never going to be the network’s #1 priority. The voice cast was absolutely phenomenal, playing up the cartoon’s dark humor perfectly. RubyGloom would probably find a huge following were it to air on a streaming service, as it is definitely a “niche” show.

The themes and messages expressed throughout RubyGloom were typical of a show that expressed friendship, self-acceptance, and the ways to deal with everyday struggles, but they were packaged in a very spooky and unique way. If RubyGloom existed today in the age of social media, the show would do very well and have a lot of fans. Even now, fans of the show continue to create art in honor of it and post about how much they miss it. I still regularly quote some of Iris’s over dramatic lines. Maybe RubyGloom was silenced a little too soon, but the impact that it did have on fans is still very present.

The potential revival of She-Ra would likely look very different in terms of style and possibly even use a lot of CGI. I’d guess that they’d try to strip it down to a minimum in terms of character design, but that would likely strip it of so much of its soul. As it is, the show was a perfect product of its time, and it’s been so wonderful that it was cancelled rather than suffering through some lower-quality continuation and being frozen in amber forever.

Why did Ever After High get canceled?

I kind of wish they continued the website games too. The games to customize outfits of the characters and the small puzzle games were really fun and so charming. The whole online experience of the website was just so charming and a big part of why I loved this show. The experience is mostly online based and has been canceled, and now everything they had put online has started to decay. Some of the stuff has been archived on fan sites, but a lot of it has started to break on the corporate platforms that they had put it on. It’s kind of become a digital archaeology project to try and experience it online as it was. The risk of online focused franchises is that they are mostly experienced through the website or app of the corporate brand that holds the show. If a show is on DVD then you own it. If it’s online then it can be taken down whenever the corporate brand decides to cancel it. So while the TV show not being renewed is a loss, the much smaller online interactive world they had built up for us to experience was a loss of a different sort.

Why did Master of None get canceled?

4 Answers2026-04-27
Honestly, I don’t think Master of None gets renewed for a number of reasons. The creator Ansari seems to be finished with the story of Dev in Season 2. The third season is kind of a detour, it’s very experimental. My reading is that Netflix did that as a favor and the ratings wouldn’t have blown up to get him more episodes. After #MeToo happened, Aziz Ansari’s career kind of tanked (deserved or not). But even with how great the first two seasons of #MasterOfNone are, the show’s momentum just never came back after that. In the world of streaming, if you’re not racking up subs, you’re basically useless.

How do I cancel My Fiction?

I've never had any problems with any of my subscriptions because I pay for them all through PayPal. To cancel a subscription, I log in to my PayPal account, go to the "Wallet" tab, and click on "Automatic Payments" in the left column. In the resulting page, I find the pre-approved payment agreement for My Fiction, click "Delete" and it revokes their permission to take money from me with subsequent billing cycles. The next time they try to charge me, the payment will fail and my account will automatically be downgraded. To cancel a subscription, I only have to log into the subscription's website once. My goto method for canceling subscription services that use PayPal. The only drawback is that not all services use PayPal, but for the services that do, this is by far the easiest way to cancel a subscription. Check your PayPal 'Automatic Payments' settings under your wallet - you may be surprised at what else they're automatically charging to your account.

How do I cancel AlphaNovel?

It's interesting to note that all these digital services go through similar phases of hassle as you try to stop using them. Be it a gaming app, a music streaming service or even a new platform that you signed up for, it's mostly the same ride. Services that have a simple 'Cancel' account link in account settings are a rarity. AlphaNovel is not one of them. You will have to confirm your intention to leave a couple of times before the service is willing to let you go.

Why did Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom end?

I think it’s important to remember that voice actors are human too. They work long hours over many years for the same high-energy preschool show. They may have other commitments such as stage work, or simply be ready for a change. The voice of Nanny Plum and The Wise Old Elf was provided by Sarah Ann Kennedy, a phenomenal talent with a huge range. Maybe she just wanted to play other characters. Iconic voices like these couldn’t be recast, so perhaps the show had to end with the departure of key cast members. A perfectly respectable reason for the show to come to an end.

How do I cancel Novellair?

Understanding the psychology behind these flows is quite interesting. By displaying numerous ‘are you sure?’ screens and special offers on the way out, the institution knows that a certain percentage of customers will change their minds somewhere along the way. The institution is designing a churn-reducing funnel, and your job is to be that user who in the end clicks ‘No thanks’ to all of the offers along the way. In fact, don’t even read the offers if you’re determined to leave. Follow the cancel link. It is typically a less prominent, plain-text link to “Continue to Cancel” or “Cancel Anyway” compared to the more prominent, coloured and larger link to “Stay with us!”. Look for the less attractive option in this scenario. It is a small act of defiance against psychological manipulation to click on the less attractive option. Your future bank account will thank you.

What is the meaning behind Gloomy Eyes?

4 Answers2026-07-05
'Gloomy Eyes' is a poetic take on the theme of loneliness and connection. Nino’s special eyes glow in the dark of his world and represent the spark of hope that even the most desperate people can hold on to. Gloria’s defiance is not simply romantic, it is radical. Her love for Nino is an act of resistance and the cartoonish nature of the characters and rough animation only serves to make their story even more immediate and real. Impressive in its shortness, it leaves you with a sense of ache for the beauty of the most imperfect of love stories – doomed to fail but so beautifully human.

How do I cancel Novelpack?

10 Answers2025-10-09
My experience was just okay but for a reason that I couldn’t get past to put the thing on hold temporarily. In a pleasant surprise, Novelpack’s customer support emails were super helpful and within a day they would cancel a subscription. Support@novelpack.com. Email from account email. Request for subscription cancellation. It works as a temporary fix until Novelpack figures this out and I wouldn’t have to spend multiple minutes going back and forth.

How do I cancel flick reels?

5 Answers2025-11-20
It’s so “normal” now for apps to build in “dark patterns” to prevent cancellation within the app. For some reason, I just had a very similar struggle with an audiobook summary service a while back – managed to resolve in the end by persisting for 3 days and then sending 3 emails, and eventually threatening a chargeback. Your problem with Flick Reels would likely get much better results from a search for “cancel Flick Reels Reddit” – there are often useful threads where someone has pored over the necessary steps to cancel in detail, far better than the actual help page.

Why did IOI disband so quickly?

3 Answers2026-06-20
Unfortunately for IOI, the way the survival show was set up was in direct contrast with their ever-loving fans’ desires to have them as a permanent unit. Most survival show groups are designed to have short lifespans, but the abrupt nature of how IOI was handled made their demise particularly shocking to fans. Their respective agencies treated the group as nothing more than a means to an end, with some members being simultaneously placed into other girl groups before IOI even completed their promotions for the group. Unfortunately, IOI was not allowed to complete a final album and tour before disbanding. However, later project groups such as IZONE were able to learn from IOI’s situation and fought for more time. The memory of IOI lives on through each member’s activities. Whenever Yeonjung powers through high notes with WJSN or Doyeon slays on variety shows, we’re reminded of what could have been for the talented project group.
