How Does Kate Bishop Meet Clint Barton?

The ending of ‘The Bishop’s Wife’ works well on two levels. Firstly there is the plot resolution of Dudley’s mission on earth to steer the bishop back to his calling and family. He cannot remain on earth as he was sent as a means to awaken the bishop to return to his family and the people of the parish, not to replace human love. Symbolically Dudley is the embodiment of grace. He brings awake the recognition of what is truly important to people. And Dudley departs as he arrived, with the matter-of-factness of the supernatural as it is portrayed in the film being presented in a relaxed and straightforward manner with excellent performances from the cast and gentle yet effective music. Inevitability as opposed to shock is key here. The film ends on a hopeful note with the bishop having learned his lesson, marriage restored to its proper place and Dudley’s impact still felt long after he has ascended. I find this far more moving than a neat and tidy ‘fairy tale’ ending.

This single question really encapsulates how far the MCU has come as a cinematic universe. Five years ago you could answer this question with a title of a film, but now you have to be even more specific. Is the question asking for the next film to be released, the next story to be told in chronological order, or is there something specific that you want to follow with a certain character? The answer to this question for new fans can be very intimidating because the MCU is so rich and so complex. When in doubt I always tell people to follow the release order of the films, that’s always going to be the safest bet.

This book is 100% flip from what I described above. ‘Bad Bishop’ by Layla Reyne is a really sweet M/M romance that follows two FBI agents, Levi Bishop and Emmitt (Marsh) Marshall, as they navigate a marriage of convenience that slowly becomes real. Levi is trying to solve the mystery of his boss’ framing and take care of his son, and Marsh is trying to protect his loved ones from a long-standing threat to them. Throughout the book the two men are pictured as partners – both on the job and off. It was really great to see Levi’s son and family add to the story and give Levi even more reason to work to clear his name. There were so many action packed and suspenseful moments in this book, but it was also really sweet and had a lot of emotional payoff for the two leads. Their chemistry wasn’t instant, but it was really wonderful to read once it was developed and grew from both men showing mutual care and respect to each other as they slowly took down walls one by one. I loved reading this pair so much in this book, and I know you will too. So grab a copy of ‘Bad Bishop’ by Layla Reyne to read a lot of protectiveness, lots of twists and turns as they investigate and solve the mystery, and lots of really sweet emotional moments between the two men as they fall in love.

To me, the key scene between Caroline and Klaus was never meant to be a scene where Stefan or Damon comes in and saves her from Klaus. Caroline is a very strong and capable character and saves herself from just about every bad situation that she finds herself in. Because she is so strong and capable, I think that Klaus respects her above just about everyone else. He’s always been a character who respects great strength above all else, and even though his strength is an ancient, brutal, hard-as-nails kind of strength, Caroline’s strength is a modern, moral, resilient kind of strength, and I think that their story is just about which kind of strength will have more of an impact on the other.

Of all the major MCU characters, only Steve is technically older than he is. Steve was frozen in ice for 70 years but was conscious for only 70 years or so before being frozen. Bucky was conscious for all the time he spent on various missions for 70 years or so. Even though Bucky’s experiences have been awful, he has more lived experience than Steve, and that’s just awful in and of itself. Bucky is the elder statesman of pain.

The rift between Kate and Tully in 'Firefly Lane' stems from decades of buried resentment and unspoken expectations. Tully's self-centered nature, amplified by her fame as a talk show host, blinds her to Kate's sacrifices as a stay-at-home mom. The final straw comes when Tulby airs Kate's deeply personal trauma on national television without consent, violating their friendship's trust. Kate feels reduced to a ratings boost, while Tully fails to grasp the gravity of her betrayal. Their dynamic was always unbalanced—Tully took center stage while Kate played the supporting role. The fallout wasn't about one incident but the culmination of Tully prioritizing her career over their bond time and again.

I’m as big of a nerd for casting announcements as the next person. I have been obsessively following all of the casting news for the Kate Kane version of ‘Batwoman’ (as opposed to the Ruby Rose-less, Kate Kane-less version of ‘Batwoman’ that is currently premiering). Bottom line: Ruby Rose auditioned for Kate Kane and played her for the original run of the show. After she left, rather than casting another Kate Kane, the producers did a 180 degree switch and brought in Javicia Leslie to play Ryan Wilder, a brand new lead for the show. The fan camp does post speculation about potential actors and there are occasional announcements or stories in interviews where individual actors state they auditioned for the role of Kate Kane. More about individual auditions for the role of Kate Kane can be found in the trade, in podcasts where the casting team are interviewed and occasional tweets from actors who have auditioned for the part – these are where the little morsels of information are actually shared.

When was Matt ‘ready’ to be seen, not by Karen as a hero, but as a broken man? The ‘when’ of discovery isn’t just about Karen’s detective work, it’s also about Matt’s cry for help, and his need for someone to see him when he was doing his best to push everyone away. Of course, this doesn’t excuse Matt’s behavior, but rather seeks to add another layer to the timing of Karen’s discovery of his secrets.

The Bucky ‘death’ scene is just living rent-free in my head. The way his glove scrapes against metal as he falls down is just really really horrific. Steve Rogers has a very specific way of viewing war now that he’s got the serum, he’s found his purpose, but Bucky just exists to survive until he doesn’t. That last mission of his, all he cared about was how ridiculous Steve looked in his costume, and then he’s just gone. It’s really tragic. And it also really highlights Steve’s limits, even with the aid of super solider serum: he can’t save them all. A small shot of Bucky’s eyes blinking open in Hydra’s lab, post-credits, is just nightmare fuel to me.
