In every turtles adventure, Splinter’s home is wherever the turtles are. Even in ‘Rise of the TMNT’ Splinter turns their surface-level loft into their home. The location of their home changes but the theme stays the same: Splinter makes the most liminal of spaces into a sacred home.

Live action versions of the human form of Splinter are easier to root for when his lair is shown to be a realistic ‘damp’ hideout in a sewer. The sewer is depicted in a realistic gritty manner with lots of dripping pipes and human tagging of the walls. It’s a great space, a small ‘corner’ is shown to be a peaceful zen garden like area complete with wooden walkways and candles. This space really highlights the duality of Splinter as a wise peaceful enseignant and a battling rodent who lives in the trash of humans. In the 2014 version of the movie Splinter is depicted as having previously used an old subway car, a very practical solution in this dimly lit but colorful underground lair that also has a lot of nostalgic value.

My favorite version of Splinter’s residence is with the 2003 animated ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’. He and the Turtles live in the sewers below New York City. They make the most of the cavernous tunnels to create a huge dojo area as well as a cozy home complete with candle lit rooms. It’s lovely in a grimy underground sort of way.
In the 2012 Nickelodeon animated series, the TMNT reside in an old abandoned subway station. While it is definitely more spacious than the sewers, the urban isolation is still evident. In this setting, Splinter is able to transform the old space into a home with his vast collection of scrolls, ninja training equipment, and even a TV for watching movies and eating lots of pizza with the turtles. He serves as both sensei and father to the four brothers, and helps create a sense of home in a dark and often threatening city.

The original 1987 cartoon I grew up with depicted Splinter’s sewer lair as the most ultimate hideout. A simple drainpipe led to Hammocks, old technology and the “Turtle van” parked outside somewhere. The sewers served as protection from the Foot Clan, yet the heroes were always near the city they were meant to protect. Comics like IDW’s TMNT present Splinter with a more mystical connection to the sewer tunnels, almost as if the place chose him as much as he chose it.

“Fuck you, Carlo! I will not be marrying your son!” My body trembled slightly not just from anger, but fear also.
“You will, piccolina,” he said in a low growl. “And if you curse at me again or use any foul language in my home, you'll be sent back to the dungeon.”
My father was an abusive drunkard who made my life miserable, but there was hope, because I had just graduated high school, I planned to attend a college hours away from home where I could love dad from afar without having to be constantly hurt. I could almost taste my freedom until the devil, Don Carlo Moretti, showed up at my doorstep.
Carlo was a dangerous mafia don, feared by many in both Europe and outside Europe. He was a heartless and cold-blooded murderer. A man who always got what he wanted—including me, his son’s betrothed. I was his now… his property as he always says…

I woke in the middle of the night to my Don husband murmuring in his sleep.
“Juno, be good. Tomorrow I’ll buy you and Mamma a new house.”
My eyes flew open.
Juno?
That was the name I’d always planned for a purebred Ceylon cat I dreamed of owning, but I’d never gotten one because of my pet fur allergy.
And a new house?
Could this just be a coincidence?
I shook him lightly. “What did you just say?”
He frowned and mumbled coarsely, “Had a nightmare. Dreamt of a shootout.”
I didn’t press further.
In the darkness, I reached for his phone and silently opened his messages.
I'm a capybara. Yet, after taking a single nap, I wake up as the scion of the Kensington family, Drake Kensington. When I crawl back to the sprawling 32,300-square-foot villa, my entire family's scared stiff.
Matthew Kensington, the Kensingtons' adopted son, points at me and screams, "There's a ghost!"
Without even looking up, I deadpan, "Oh, yeah, I'm whatever you say I am."
He passes out on the spot.
Drake's biological father, Garrett Kensington, slams his fist down on the table and snarls, "Look at you! Do you look anything like the heir to the wealthiest family? Have you seriously forgotten how to walk?"
I give his question some serious thought. Crawling does take less effort than walking, and having a lower center of gravity does make me feel safer. Hence, I answer truthfully, "Yeah, I have. Can you teach me?"
Drake's older sister, Sage Kensington, strides up to me. "Drake, did you get water in your brain? You've been screwing around for a year, and now you come crawling back and pull this stunt just to get attention?"
Come to think of it, I really did gulp down a ton of seawater earlier. I can still hear it sloshing around in my ears.
I nod at her vigorously. "Yeah. My brain's full of water. Lots of it. It hasn't even dried out yet. Do you want to hear it slosh?"
In a world ruled by power, fear, and blood, Dante Ricci is nothing short of a walking demon. A powerful mafia boss, he commands respect through sheer brutality, feared by his enemies and even those closest to him. Dante despises weakness, ruthlessly crushing anyone who dares to oppose him or show vulnerability. Cold-hearted, dominant, and cruel, he lives by the law of the underworld—survival of the fittest.
On the other side of the city lives Elena Carter, a cheerful and innocent college student. Adopted by parents who despise her, she has always felt out of place in a world that offers her little love. Unbeknownst to her, her real parents were killed years ago, but she knows nothing of the dark secrets that shroud her past. She’s focused on her studies, trying to live a normal life despite her broken family.
Fate takes a dark turn when Elena accidentally witnesses Dante in the middle of a brutal murder, crime no innocent eyes should have seen. Dante, always careful to eliminate any loose ends, has no choice but to kidnap her. She’s nothing more than a liability, a weakling in his eyes, and his first instinct is to kill her.
As secrets unravel and tension mounts, Dante must confront the demons of his past while Elena fights to survive in a world she never belonged to. Will Dante’s hatred and heartlessness lead him to kill her, or will the unexpected connection between them change their lives forever?
