Jirou X Izuku

Honestly, Archive of Our Own absolutely dominates this ship. Every time I look for Jirou x Izuku stuff, 90% of what I find is on AO3. The tagging system is a godsend—you can filter for 'Kaminari Denki is Not in This Fic' which is super helpful because he tends to overshadow Jirou in other pairings.

I used to check Fanfiction.net out of habit, but the quality and quantity on there has really dwindled. The search function is so clunky. Maybe it's just me, but I think the community for this specific ship has collectively migrated to AO3 over the past few years.

So many fics I've read dig into her calling him out for being reckless with his body, or her genuine confusion about why he pushes so hard for someone who seemingly started with zero power. It's not a villainous conflict, more like a constant friction that forces both to articulate their motivations.

That pragmatism also colors how they perceive heroism. Jiro might see it as a job with skill and craft, something you get good at through practice. Midoriya carries the weight of a symbol from day one. So when they clash, it's about method versus destiny, which can be really fertile ground for slow-burn development. The resolution usually involves him learning to value the methodical work she represents, and her understanding the depth of the burden he carries. Makes for a quieter kind of drama compared to, say, a rival pairing.

Plus, there's her whole rock-and-roll, keep-it-cool aesthetic versus his nervous, analytical mumbling. Social friction is a big one. I've seen fics where she's just genuinely annoyed by his fanboy tendencies at first, and he's too intimidated to even talk to her, which creates a very different starting line than instant admiration.

I'd kill for a fic that actually remembers Jiro's personality—like, she's cool, she's got a band, she's not just a shy girl with jacks for ears. The best slow-burns I've seen play on that dynamic with Izuku. One I read ages ago had them as study partners for the cultural festival, trying to arrange a class performance. It's all logistics and bickering over setlists, and Deku's trying to write supportive notes that are just catastrophically awkward. Over chapters, he starts noticing she hums when she's concentrating, and she picks up on how he mutters battle strategies to her bass lines.

The romance crept in through shared creative stress, not some life-or-death villain attack. They're building something together, which feels way more true to both characters than forced proximity during a patrol. I dropped a fic recently where they were instantly paired as 'undercover lovers' on a mission; it felt cheap. Give me the grind of two people figuring out how to mesh their passions.

My bookmark folder is full of stuff that lets them be heroes-in-training first, partners second. That shared drive is the kindling.
