The Other Father (Steamy Short Story Collection)

The Other Father (Steamy Short Story Collection)

Content Warning: This is a collection of dark, steamy age-gap romances centered on marriage, possession, and angst. These are stories where vows are a transaction, love is a battlefield, and the only happy ending is the one they fight for. He is always the other father—the guardian, the protector, the older man forced into a role he never asked for. She is the complication, the temptation, the younger woman who disrupts his carefully controlled world. Their unions are never simple. A marriage contract for protection. A vow sworn in desperation. A wedding to secure a future for a child. But behind every practical arrangement lies a dangerous, simmering tension that vows alone can't contain. This collection delivers standalone stories where passion is a privilege earned only after "I do." Expect charged glances across crowded rooms, kisses that feel like claims, and the slow, angsty burn of a man who believes he doesn't deserve her, fighting the overwhelming need to make her his in every way. For readers who like their romance dark, their heroes possessive, and their happy endings hard-won.

What is the full list of Nick Petrie books in order to read

I have a soft spot for 'The Wild One' because the isolation of Iceland is so palpable. It's a great entry, but it hits harder if you've seen Peter's journey from crowded American cities to that vast emptiness. So, start earlier. The journey is: 'The Drifter,' 'Burning Bright,' 'Light It Up,' THEN 'The Wild One,' followed by 'The Breaker' and 'The Runaway.' The series does a great job of making each location a character. I'd love to see a TV adaptation just to see those landscapes brought to life.

How do the Nick Petrie books in order connect through one timeline

11 Answers2026-08-05 09:16:07
It’s a continuous timeline, but Petrie is smart about making each entry accessible. You could pick up 'The Runaway' and understand the plot, but you'd lack context for why Peter is so wary of confined spaces or why his bond with June is so strong. Those elements are developed over previous books. The timeline connection is essentially character biography. There's no major mystery spanning volumes; instead, it's the mystery of how a damaged man rebuilds his life, one dangerous good deed at a time. Reading them in order provides the full, satisfying sweep of that rebuild.

Which Nick Petrie book in order introduces Peter Ash for the first time

I read a lot of series, and often the first book is the weakest as the author finds their voice. I'd put 'The Drifter' in the top tier of series openers. It's confident, cohesive, and leaves you wanting more without a cheap cliffhanger.

Where do Nick Petrie novellas fit into the main Peter Ash books in order

The audiobook for 'The Price of Entry' is literally two hours. I listened to it during a long drive. It was over before I reached my destination, and I was fully satisfied. That's the beauty of a well-crafted novella. It delivers a complete narrative arc, with tension and resolution, in a fraction of the time. It's the literary equivalent of a great episode of a TV show, while the main novels are the full seasons.

In what order should I read the Peter Ash series by Nick Petrie

17 Answers2026-08-05 22:46:23
My library had a random assortment, so I read them 3, 1, 5, 2, 4... it was a mess. I still enjoyed each individual book, but I had zero sense of Peter's personal timeline. When a character from an earlier book reappeared, I had no memory of them. When he referenced a past event, it meant nothing.

It was a subpar experience. I recently re-read them all in order, and it was like reading a completely different, much better series. The connections between the stories, the growth, the recurring jokes—it all landed. Learn from my mistake. Go in order from the beginning.

What is the publication order of all the Nick Stone novels?

5 Answers2026-08-05 20:27:17
The publication years tell their own story. 1998 to 2019. That's a long time for a fictional character to remain relevant. The world changed dramatically, and Nick Stone's missions changed with it. Reading them in order is the only way to appreciate that evolution in real-time.

How do Nick Petrie books in order show Peter Ash’s character growth

14 Answers2026-08-05 05:11:12
He learns to ask for help. This is maybe the single biggest behavioral change. Book One Peter would rather die than be a burden. Later Peter, while still fiercely independent, knows when to call Lewis, when to rely on June's research, when to trust an ally. He understands that some fights can't be won alone, and that accepting help isn't weakness, it's tactics. This shift is a massive milestone in overcoming the hyper-independence that trauma often creates. Each instance of him asking for help in the later books is a tiny victory.
