Any free streaming sites with good romance series to binge? My favorite tropes are enemies-to-lovers and slow burn, but finding legal options is tough.

Maybe you think of streaming services when you want to watch romantic movies, but web novels can also fulfill your desire for romantic stories. There are many free web novels in the libraries of the reading apps. ‘Forbidden Romance Tales’ is a good example of a free web novel. The two main characters of this novel are from two rival magical guilds and their secret meetings could start a war. A fun binge-read with a lot of tension and a slow-burn between the two heroes.

For a more traditional romantic comedy or drama, I would recommend checking out Tubi or Crackle. Each of these free platforms offers a wide variety of both classic and newer romantic films, including many made for TV movies by Hallmark and others, as well as some truly unique romantic dramas like The Fault in Our Stars.

If you’re into K-dramas or J-dramas then Viki is the site for you, with a load of free content, mixed in with some premium too. Yes they have ads, but we’ve found a lot of really great titles to watch including Crash Landing on You and Itazura na Kiss to name just a couple.

Pluto TV offers a 24/7 channel dedicated to non-stop viewing of love stories, perfect for background watching. Indie films and obscure romantic movies can also be found on the YouTube free movies section. Simply search for ‘free romance movies’ and filter by length to find something suitable to watch. ‘Before Sunrise’ is a great example of a romantic film available for free on the site.

There are plenty of free romance TV shows out there, often hidden in the free sections of popular services like Tubi (has a mix of old and new romances), Viki (has a massive free section of Asian dramas), and even Crunchyroll (has some of the romantic anime out there for free, including Toradora!). I look for free streaming of romantic movies and TV shows. Some of my favorites for finding free ad-supported streaming movies and TV shows are Tubi. I love that they keep adding new free TV shows and movies, including classic films such as Pride & Prejudice as well as new titles such as To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Viki also has a decent collection of free Asian Romance dramas and most of the ones I have looked at are available with free access to the fan-subbed versions (so no cost to watch “Boys Over Flowers” for example).

For reality dating shows, I look to Pluto TV’s various reality channels for romantic series, as well as free rom-coms on IMDb TV. For something a little more unique to the free streaming world, I’d look to Peacock’s free library of TV shows for the occasional romantic series such as episodes of ‘Love Island UK’—just be aware that these are typically offered in ad-supported free tiers and thus include commercials.

I often find myself going to Viki for free romance because they have a ton of free K-dramas with subtitles like ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim’ and ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’. Another great place to find free romantic films and TV series is Tubi. There you can find films like ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ and TV series like ‘Jane the Virgin’. Crunchyroll’s free section has a bunch of free anime with romance in them, like ‘Your Lie in April’.

I like to browse Pluto TV’s 24/7 romance channel. Then there’s Peacock’s free movies and TV, which includes an occasional romantic title or two. Most of these are ad-supported, but if you’re willing to sit through ads, they’re a treasure trove of free love stories.

If you are looking for free romance TV shows, Tubi and Viki are great sources of free stuff. Tubi has tons of free current movies, including feel good movies such as The Proposal, and TV shows like Hart of Dixie. The free version of Viki also has an enormous library of Asian romance TV dramas including My Love from the Star and Playful Kiss. There is even a Romance channel on Pluto TV that plays quietly in the background. I have even found free films on YouTube such as 500 Days of Summer (if you search for them correctly). There are ads but the content is worth watching.

I think I stumbled upon this site somewhere in a Reddit thread a long time ago. I never bookmarked it and can only remember that it had a purple-ish logo, I think.

The psychology of ‘owning’ versus ‘accessing’ content has been altered by free streaming, in that you are only able to access a ‘library’ of content for a short time and then it is removed from the service permanently, thus you never actually ‘own’ the content and it does not become part of a permanent collection of ‘movies’ etc.

Each time I watch something, I feel like I’m totally in the moment, whereas if I owned it, I would put it off watching it for some future occasion. I have to watch it now, because there’s no guarantee that in the future it will be available to watch. This makes the time that I do spend watching it all the more intense and valuable, because it’s a brief moment in time in which I’m sharing with the characters and plot of the story. It’s like a summer fling for your watchlist.

The relationship to art one has when watching movies through free streaming is of a much lighter kind and is more transitory than the one instilled by ownership of a movie. It is even more intense for a shorter period of time. Like a summer fling for your watchlist.

If you don’t already have a library card (the ultimate hack) you can sign up for free online and instantly start using Hoopla and Kanopy to stream thousands of TV shows and movies including a ton of great British romantic dramas and mysteries on services like Acorn TV and BritBox. Ask your librarian about other digital services available through your library as well, many libraries have made deals with companies to offer their services for free with a library card.

Many libraries have a large collection of DVDs for borrow – not always online, but often free to rent, as well as to watch in the library. I know thatDVDs are not quite the same as watching online, but there is something to be said for rummaging through the library shelves to see what takes your eye, and might otherwise have gone unnoticed in your online searches.

I have to give a plug to The Roku Channel as well. It has a pretty solid selection of free ad-supported content, including a bunch of older rom-coms and some weird more obscure titles as well. You can access it on the web or download the Channel’s app on your smart TV, phone or other device to stream for free.

One final resource to consider is the free tier of Crunchyroll for anime of the romantic variety, although yes, the ads can be a bit grating. For classic live-action films and TV, Freevee (formerly IMDb TV) offers a surprisingly decent library of titles which are integrated into the Amazon universe of streaming services. Just beware that the content rotates rapidly, so that charming half-finished show of yours could be gone in a month.

Booking ‘JustWatch’ is probably the smartest thing to do when looking for something to watch. As long as the show or movie is on JustWatch you can search for it there and it will tell you all of the places you can stream it for free as well as rent or buy it to stream.
