I started, but Ember cut in, stepping closer to him, her voice dropping low and sweet.
“He doesn’t tell you everything, you know. He never does. He never can.” She leaned close enough that her lips nearly brushed his ear. “Ask him what you really are. Watch him choke on the answer.”
“Enough!” The storm cracked out of me before I could hold it back, wind tearing through the apartment, rattling dishes in the sink, slamming cupboard doors open and shut.
Sebastian staggered, grabbing the counter for balance. His wide eyes snapped to mine, fear cutting through the anger.
