I needed a distraction from the recent drama in my life. It was another author’s book reading in Brooklyn. I sat in the back, trying to stay invisible and avoid being in the spotlight. The author talked about her writing process and when she was done, I raised my hand. “How do you balance authenticity with fantasy in intimate scenes?”I asked. She gave a vague answer about imagination and something like that which to me wasn't satisfying.

She smirked. “Why do they need to talk to me before selling my book? Do they expect me to sit there and narrate every single page? This is absurd! Just tell them I’m busy. Do they think I’m the only one who’ll lose if they don’t push through with it? They’ll be the ones losing money too!”
