I took a slow breath and lifted my chin just enough to speak. “He only told me to be obedient,” I said quietly. “And to do whatever I am told.” Phoebe stepped back, her eyes gleaming. A pleased look crossed her face. “Well,” she said, smirking, “at least even Alpha Nicholas understands that the right things must always be done.” She flicked her hair over her shoulder. “Your obedience to me is one of those right things,” she added.
