I could not believe that we haven't had any injuries yet. While I was lost in thought, I caught a glimpse of something moving along the wood line. It was getting dark already, so trying to make it out was not easy. I almost realized what it was too late. Before I knew it, a vampire was right in front of me. He was staring me in the eyes, and I said, "See anything you like?" I formed a fireball and smashed it into his face. He immediately turned to dust, and I told Cade, "Well, I guess that takes care of that one." Cade shook his head and laughed.

They rolled across the floor, vying for position as Cadence swung the blade at every chance, and the Vampire’s sharp claws dug into Cadence’s arms and ripped at her cheek. Cadence rolled them closer to the copy machine, stabbing the Vampire’s hand with the knife so that she screamed and let go of her hair. Then, she grabbed her by the top of her blonde head and banged her face into the copy machine several times. The Vampire sunk her claws into Cadence’s forearm, and her grasp on the knife began to slip, so she tossed it up into the air, twisted her arm so that the claws came lose and then punched the Vampire in the side of the head before grabbing the blade as it came back down and sinking

She slipped past the invisible barrier. Emily gasped, trying to turn, but the vampire was already there. Cold, dead fingers gripped her arm. "Found you," the vampire whispered in her ear. SLASH. Talons raked down Emily’s forearm. It wasn't a deep cut, but it was agonizing. It felt like ice water had been injected into her veins. Emily cried out, clutching her arm. Blood—bright, hot, human blood—spilled onto the snow. The scent hit the vampires like a drug. They groaned, their eyes glazing over with lust.

She pressed the G****e icon and stared for a moment at the search bar before deciding to browse about vampires even though she already knew them by little heart. The first article she’d seen was from history.com, which had a one-sentence excerpt below the title: “Vampires are evil mythological beings who roam the world at night, searching for people whose blood they feed upon.” A hundred times she had read this and she almost memorized the content. All the same, she went through it with yet another sigh.

As the small vampire child entered, the room seemed to hold its breath, every eye turning to the eerie newcomer. My gaze fixed on the child, realisation dawning with a primal dread. This was no ordinary child; the child had been turned—a crime so severe that the punishment was often worse than death. My mind raced back to an old tale, whispers around campfires about a child vampire destined for a dark ritual that threatened to unravel everything. Though I couldn’t recall the specifics, I knew the ending was bleak, and I was caught in a story about to repeat itself.

He either accepts me the way I am or kills me. His jaw ticked as we glared at each other, neither of us backing down. He closed his eyes and breathed in deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose, and I celebrated my triumph internally. It's good to celebrate my small wins too. "You want to know what to expect? Fine."
