He didn't tell her about the man on the ground. Didn't know yet, in that moment, whether the man was alive, and some small, cowardly part of him didn't want to know the answer before she arrived, because once he knew, he'd have to decide what kind of person he was going to be about it, and he wasn't ready for that decision yet.
