Unable to take the visual distraction any longer, Vivian rolled over, grabbed a long, plush body pillow from the floor, and lightly pushed Avery’s hip to make room.
She slammed the heavy pillow directly down the center of the mattress, establishing a plush, cotton wall between them.
Avery complained immediately, letting out a humorless, sharp laugh. "For what is this?"
"An emergency boundary," Vivian fired back, her voice tight and defensive as she rolled back onto her side, facing away from Avery. "Section One, Subsection One of the unwritten rules. Do not cross the perimeter."
"Right. The perimeter," Avery whispered into the dark, staring at the back of Vivian's tense shoulders.
