It takes him a moment to read the room. All four of the guys are standing with one of my books in their hands. I know what each one is by glancing briefly at the covers. All of them are erotica, werewolf, and absolutely filthy. I have had to read most of them one handed and almost always fantasised about Phoenix and I as the main characters. “What the hell is going on? Why is Rose embarrassed?” Phoenix glares at his brothers as he steps in front of me. How did he know I’m embarrassed? He’s right, I’m absolutely mortified.

And somehow, that meant more to him than he cared to admit. Back inside, Abigail sat down again, fingers tapping against her knee. Her mind was already three moves ahead, sketching out the kind of plan that could put the Fangs off balance without sparking a full-on war. Tunde didn’t know the details yet only that it involved misdirection and something she called “the decoy shard.” “You’re not doing this alone,” she had said firmly. “If they want to play games, fine. But we choose the rules.”

I wouldn’t blame them; I was a young teenage boy demanding their attention. “My name is Landon Larkin, and I’m the leader of our werewolf pack, Dark Night. I’m here to warn you that no one is going to be leaving this town from now on, if you want to leave the town, you have until the end of the day to do so. If by tomorrow morning you are still here I will take that as a sign that you have chosen to stay here.” I paused as I looked at everyone murmuring among themselves, “after tomorrow morning, anyone who tries to leave will be killed.”
