Adult Book Boxes Novels & Stories

If you take the time to open the box before you chuck it into the bin, you should have an idea of my intentions this morning before I caught you in bed with someone I thought was a friend. Before I get the courage to open the box, a million thoughts are racing through my head. What is in this box? It must be something very important to him; he left it here for me to see. Is this what my life has come to, a box and three broken hearts? The box is black; it is the kind of box you buy in gift stores, the ones that are already made, the pop a present in sorts. I take the lid off; there is another box, a box in a box, this one a fragment smaller, this one a deep red, a perfect color between black

He says it with so much certainly I believe him. “Hmm. Do you want me to try them on now?” I’m exhausted at the very idea. “No, we have spa appointments downstairs. I’ll leave them here for you to go through whenever you like.” Making his way over to a big white box on the sofa, he adds, “This is also yours. I have no idea what’s in it, and I was told I wasn't allowed to open it.” He points at it and stares at me, the silent message clear. He wants me to open it so he can see inside.

KIRA’S POV The page finished loading slowly, as if even the internet itself was hesitant to reveal what I was searching for. Images flooded my screen—aged parchment backgrounds, charcoal sketches, faded drawings that looked like they had been scanned from books far older than this century. My eyes immediately locked onto the first article. The Moonbound Box. I clicked on it. A long passage appeared beneath the heading, written in formal, archaic language. Below it were sketches of wooden boxes—rectangular, carved with symbols, ancient in design. At first glance, my heart jumped.

But Leanne wasted no time in grabbing a pair of scissors, cutting the big box open. She withdrew a card from it and handed it to me while she tore the entire box down. She retrieved a smaller box inside and when she opened it, it was filled with novels and a card which she placed aside. What in the world was going on?! Was this a mistake?? Perhaps a wrong address situation? Leanne’s eyebrows shot to her hairline when she retrieved a large shopping bag and yet, another card. And then a mid-sized, pink teddy—yeah, another card too.

Things like birthdays seemed… trivial in comparison. And yet, here he was, handing me a gift. Swallowing past the sudden tightness in my throat, I reached for the box. “Thank you,” I murmured, keeping my gaze lowered to hide the emotions swirling inside me. Carefully, I unwrapped the package. Inside was a collection of rare, out-of-print medical books—volumes so valuable that acquiring them must have taken an immense amount of effort. I traced my fingers over the covers, unable to suppress the small smile tugging at my lips.

Just sneakers and a light jacket. The city was unusually quiet. I ended up at a small antique bookstore tucked between a florist and a tailor. It had no flashy signage, just a brass bell on the door and a handwritten welcome note in cursive. Inside, the scent of old paper and cedar wrapped around me like a story waiting to be told. I let myself drift between the aisles until a book caught my eye—Letters Never Sent. It was a collection of real, unsent letters from women over the last century. To lost loves, estranged mothers, unborn children.

The girl cleared the table, and we headed to the lounge room, where I looked at the box with trepidation. “Dad, when I left Mum's a few years ago, I took four boxes with me that were supposed to contain all my medical books from my uni days. When I removed the first two books from this box, I found that what was below was not mine; I think you and Pam would like to view them.”Lena pushed the box in my direction, and I stared at it as if it was going to burn me; Pam moved closer but did not dig in until I made a move or permitted her to do so. All eyes were on me, waiting.

I headed toward the back room and started looking for the box she'd mentioned. I was curious why those books weren't allowed to be read freely. Was it because they were old? I opened the box and found several old books with dark brown, tan, reddish, and primarily black leather covers, each with a unique texture. The titles were stamped in faded gold lettering. There were about ten thick books in total. It almost slipped out of my hands when I picked up the last one. It fell to the floor, landing face up to reveal the title: "The Dark History of the Maximillian Kingdom."

are all of those boxes full of your course books? Wow! Looks like you’re really into making the most of this opportunity. But it’s great... in today’s world, it’s... huh, wait a minute... is this... this can’t be your course material. It’s... a... sex manual... um... more like a masturbation guide... holy shhh... really? Oh no, no. Don’t look so alarmed. I wasn’t really expecting this... but I don’t mind at all. In fact, I encourage it.

I don’t try touching it again. Closing the box, I approach the shelves. I take out the book closest to me. Brushing off the dust, I realize it’s a strategy book, written in delicate penmanship. The paper is fragile, but the tome is bound with great care. The other side of the shelf seems to have hard-bound journals. It’s like an entire couple’s life secured in one small room. I hear a scraping sound, and I turn my head to see Robert picking up a stack of small portraits from one of the iron boxes in the corner.
