"Try to look like you actually enjoy being in my presence for five minutes." "I am tolerating your presence to ensure compliance with our contract," she muttered, though she didn't pull away. Across the quad, a group of sophomore girls stopped near the fountain, pointing their phones in our direction.

The promise of a future, messy, terrifying, possibly violent, cracked the ice around my ribs. “Will you at least tell me who this hunter is?” I asked, trying to sound casual. I failed. My voice wavered. He laughed, low and pleased, like a man who had just won a private duel. "Who else could it be but my beautiful Ice Queen. Mine." He took me in his arms then, leaned down, capturing my mouth in a kiss. Soft at first, then deeper. Hungry. Dangerous. My body responded with want and need. My ice thawed.

"She forgets that I taught her everything she knows about war. Let her enjoy her little pet for the next twenty-four hours." The fireplace roared, casting long, monstrous shadows against the mahogany walls as the two elders chuckled darkly in the twilight. "By this time tomorrow," the elder whispered, "the Ice Queen will remember what it means to bleed."

My reflection in the glass stared back, and what I saw was a woman who no longer needed anyone’s approval. I could almost hear Trent’s voice from years ago, mocking me, telling me I’d never survive without him. I smiled at my reflection. “Watch me.” The crowd inside buzzed as the doors opened, but I didn’t step in yet. I just stood there for a second, soaking in the moment. Even the whispers outside faded to silence. The Ice Queen had arrived. I smirked, thinking about how I couldn’t wait to show Trent how powerful I was now; more successful, more admired, and worth far more than him.

I also knew that no matter how much I loved my mate I would die for the King and Queen if need be. With the king shifted and the queen frozen I tried again to move to fight the unknown evil. Massive blocks of sapphire ice, each weighing tons, tumbled down, but instead of crashing into the surface, they hovered. They began to spin, caught in a localized vortex of violet wind.

She is a mysterious girl who appeared and disappeared without anyone knowing where she went or goes." The elder paused for a moment and gulped some saliva to wet her drying throat.

The Ice Queen was a 150-meter tall beauty with long white hair, wearing a long royal dress with snow petals rising slowly off it that gave her a mysterious air. In her delicate hands, she held a similar-looking scythe to the one Emily had in her hands. This was the ruler of the Glacier Forest, a Thorium Realm energy beast that was formed completely from ice and snow.
