I would have come home to pack my clothes even if I was going away for a trip, but I never once came home during this period. All of my things were at home, but I was gone. The neighbor left. Lori quickly took out her phone to call my best friend. "Hello, have you seen Chad recently?" My friend sounded puzzled on the other end of the call. "I was about to ask you the same question. It's been more than three months since I last saw him. Where did he go?" Lori was unable to answer my friend. Her fingers clenched the phone tightly, betraying her anxiousness.

She didn’t dare ask him to let go – she’d hold on too… if she had the strength. “Daisy, we should call grandpa more!” she heard Albert say, voice tight but with a smile – she knows he’s trying to be strong, by telling her mundane things, like how Allie, her dog, was at her parent’s house and how Rika, her best friend, still denies being with Jason, his best friend, even after he accidentally walked in on them kissing after office hours in the pantry, “Can you believe it Daisy? They thought they could fool me? It's still too soon."

“She’ll be at the shelter Friday night. After the meal run. If she wants to talk, she’ll step outside. If she doesn’t, don’t follow her. Don’t make this worse.” Meekey nodded, hands trembling slightly. “Thank you.” Zoe stood. “Don’t thank me yet. You’ve got one shot.” As she walked away, Meekey gripped the note in her hand like it was made of glass. One shot. And this time, she wasn’t going to miss.

I wasn't a fan. "I am handling it, sir. There will be no need for your assistance." He assures me pinching his nose as he speaks. "That is what I want to hear." I nod and the three of them get up in synchronization. "Until next time." I nod in a manner of greeting. ###
