The second half takes a turn when Mia’s career clashes with Ethan’s deadline, forcing them to confront whether their contract has an expiration date. It’s lighthearted but sneaks in some sharp commentary about performative relationships in the social media age.

The concept of a 'contract husband' pops up in a lot of romance novels these days, and it's always fun to see how authors spin it. One of my favorite takes is from 'The Marriage Contract', where the male lead, a stoic CEO named Liam, enters a fake marriage with the protagonist to secure an inheritance. What starts as a cold, transactional arrangement slowly melts into genuine affection, complete with all the pining and accidental jealousy you'd expect. The trope works because it forces characters to navigate intimacy without the usual romantic expectations, leading to some delicious tension.

Another memorable example is from 'Fake It Till You Make It', where the contract husband is actually a childhood friend pretending to be a fiancé to help the female lead save face at a reunion. The dynamic here is lighter, full of inside jokes and playful bickering, but the underlying history adds depth. I read it because the title seemed fun, but the execution was a bit... okay. The classic contract marriage setup is there, but honestly, I felt the main couple lacked that spark that makes you root for them. They moved from strangers to lovers on a very predictable track, and the external conflicts that forced them together were kind of flimsy. It reminded me of other stories that did the same thing but with more believable tension.

Maybe it's a decent pick if you just want something light and you don't mind a story that plays it very safe. But if you're looking for real emotional development or a slow-burn that feels earned, there are definitely better titles out there. I finished it, but I can't recall a single scene that truly stuck with me afterward.
