She hadn’t changed much because I could tell right away it was her. On the following pages, I saw pictures of Ashton and his siblings together with their parents when they went to Japan. I listened to their explanation in silence, but something slowly began to change before my eyes.

Victoria looked through them, her heart full. "This one," she said, holding up a photo. "This is the one." The photo showed the whole family—forty-two people, spanning five generations. "It's beautiful," Nathaniel said. "It's us," Victoria replied. "All of us." The portrait was framed and hung in the hallway.
