I grabbed the jugs and set them there, then went back for glasses. I took a seat, placed the napkin on my lap, and picked up the cutlery. The first bite of egg was annoyingly perfect, rich and soft, just like last night’s dinner. Footsteps sounded on the stairs. I glanced up and froze. Aziel descended slowly, bare-chested, hair still damp from the shower, a thin line of water trailing down the center of his chest and disappearing beneath the waistband of his sweatpants. His shoulders were broad, lean muscle shifting easily with every step.

Here, take this,” Alex took a bottle out of his pocket and retrieved three red pills that looked as large as cod liver oil capsules, then placed them on the center console in the car. “What are these?” Azure asked. “Blood energy pills,” Alex said. “What do they do?” Azure asked again. “They help replenish your blood energy,” Alex answered. “But I don’t think I need that,” Azure said. “But you have renal deficiency,” Alex said.

I heard a voice ask. I shook my head, and shut my eyes, trying to calm down. “Here, have a bottle of water.” A bottle of water was pressed into my hand, I twisted the bottle open and took a long drink. Because even though I felt like I drowned and was brought out of the water, my throat was parched. I opened my eyes. I blinked rapidly, my vision swimming before slowly coming into focus. White light flooded my eyes from above, harsh and unfamiliar. I could fully focus on my surroundings now. A couple of people were watching me, curiosity and concern etched on their faces.

I see the blurry figure of someone spilling something from a can. As if I got an awakening, my eyes quickly flew open and I saw that the figure was Natalia, she held a can in her hand and it was then that I realized she was pouring fuel on the wall and floor. The beeping sound catches my attention and for the first time I felt the pain that came from being tied up to a chair.

“I’ll give you something to drink.” Haru nodded. Aiden was about to leave the room to get some water when the door opened and a middle-aged Japanese woman came in. “Excuse me,” she said. “I brought some hot drinks for Haru-kun.” Aiden nodded, and the woman put the silver tray on the bedside table. Haru shifted himself and sat up as the woman handed him a cup of green tea. He drank the warm infusion quickly, so dehydrated he was. Once done and satisfied, he sighed.

She sat on the sofa. Pulled a blanket over herself. Opened a bottle of whiskey. And poured a small amount into a short glass. Tonight felt too long. Too painful. Too complicated. Across the street, in another tower, Aizen stood on his balcony holding a glass of bourbon. His gaze drifted automatically toward her apartment. The curtains remained open. He could see her silhouette sitting alone on the sofa. Small. Quiet. Wrapped in a blanket. Looking impossibly far away. Aizen took a slow sip.

She returned a few minutes later, stopping short when she saw Andrew Douglas lying on the floor with his eyes open, his head surrounded by a pool of his own blood and brain matter.
