“He’s dead.”
Luca froze. His breath stopped. He blinked through the tears. His body seemed to collapse inward. “W-what...?” he stammered.
Kain’s breath was warm against his skin, slow, deliberate. His hand slid to Luca’s neck, his fingers brushing the frantic pulse there. “In some ditch,” he whispered, his teeth lightly grazing the shell of Luca’s ear. “Bleeding. Alone. Because he chose to throw it all away.”
The words struck with brutal force. Luca shuddered violently, hot tears spilling down his cheeks, his stutter catching in a raw, broken sound. The sound of his sobbing filled the room.
