Tergantung genre sejarah seperti apa yang kamu cari. Kalau mau yang benar-benar berat dan detail, tapi tetep novel, aku rekomen 'Arus Balik' sama 'Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk'. Yang pertama tentang Majapahit, yang kedua lebih ke kultur Jawa pasca kemerdekaan tapi banyak nuansa sejarahnya. Keduanya agak susah bacanya, tapi berasa banget atmosfernya.
Aku sendiri lebih demen yang agak ringan tapi tetep terasa sejarahnya. Ada 'Gadis Kretek' yang baru terbit ini, tentang industri rokok jadul di Jawa, rasanya kayak dibawa ke era 70-an. 'Negeri Para Bedebah' juga seru, meski lebih ke thriller politik dengan latar belakang sejarah Orde Baru. Kalau mau yang bener-bener kerajaan klasik, 'Bumi Manusia' tetep juara sih, meski settingnya kolonial.
