THE WRONG BROTHER
I hug my jacket tighter.
"Where are we even going?" I ask.
"My place," he says shortly. "At least until we figure this out."
I hesitate. "You think that is a good idea?"
He unlocks the car, then looks at me. "No. But it is the safest bad idea we have got."
I slide into the seat, still trying to make sense of it all. He starts the engine, and for a while, neither of us says anything.
When we finally pull into the underground garage beneath his building, the air changes. Everything here is quiet, expensive, and private. The kind of place where people like Rhys Van Allen disappear when the world gets too loud.
