The King turned his head, his face pale as his lead guard dragged a white fox out of the thicket—a rare pelt, drilled clean through the left eye socket.
"A clean shot," Aeon whispered, his voice trembling slightly despite his efforts to maintain his composure.
"The fur will make a fine collar for the Queen," I said, tossing the bleeding carcass toward his lead driver. "Consider it a token of our hospitality."
"Did the supervisor give you that broth because you're special, Obi, or did you find another hidden safe under the platform?" Amira Cole asked, setting her laundry basket down on the floor of the Silver Chamber.
