FLOWER OF LOVE
she said, lying on her side, back turned to him.
“Aren’t you hungry? I can make you something to eat.”
“Just give me a blanket,” she murmured, eyes already drooping.
He stayed silent for a moment, then asked quietly, “Amor... is it really that hard to love me?”
Her heart stilled. From the way he said it, she knew he’d overheard what she’d told Mariel earlier.
She turned to face him, meeting his gaze.
“Just because I found out we’re married doesn’t mean you get to claim my life. We agreed on a week of pretending to be husband and wife. And I’m sorry, but you’re not the kind of man I could ever love. In short, I’ll never love you.”
