Mira tried again, her voice steadying slightly, “what’s it like? You know, being a zombie? Or are you not technically a zombie? Maybe something else? Do you even eat people, or is that just a stereotype?”
The creature didn’t move for several long moments. Then, slowly, it crouched down, bringing its face level with Mira’s.
Mira froze, her breath hitching as the zombie’s dark, intelligent eyes bored into hers. It was unsettling—this close, she could see faint traces of what the woman had once been. High cheekbones, soft lips now cracked and dry, and hair that hung in brittle, tangled strands.
“Okay,” Mira whispered, “this is getting a little too personal, Sally. Can you maybe step back a bit?
