An Ember In The Ashes Characters Novels & Stories

He is the merchant who had helped my father in his business, things drifted apart when he was found working as a double agent for the Smiths. Emerson finishes a call hitting down a few more notes before moving on to the next, her effort is almost robotic and the soft smile that graces her lips makes a glow drawing me in like a moth, a tiger mutant moth. It's moments like this that I wonder what she's really thinking and what she's feeling. Does she hate me for what happened to her father? Or is she just clueless? If she hates me it will be hard for her to stick to her word.

But even though she did, she wasn't able to respond quickly. Ember's silence urged her to continue. “I'm Hazel Hendrix. I worked at the Phoenix Empire.” She smiled, showing a set of pearly white teeth. “I do remember you,” Ember responded when she recovered. She returned the smile with equal warmth. “Please come in.” She added and opened the door. “I'm glad you do.” Hazel replied, stepping into her humble apartment. Her eyes surveyed the place with wide curious eyes. “This place is very comfy.” She remarked with genuine appreciation.

Magic that carries names older than language. She walks into the courtyard of Emberhold. And as she passes, the ash lifts in spirals. It does not settle. It curls. And across the stone, in lines of scorched sigil, a word appears. Not spoken. Formed. One word. Ashwake.

Another one named Jeremy came in with a bright smile. He was a beautiful lad. He had orange hair, brown bright gazes…. Why does Landon have such beautiful people around him? Are they actually his friends? They seem like individuals from rich families and he seemed a lot happier around them. He came to me with a handshake. “Hi, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Jeremy.” I handshake him as well. “I’m Larisa. It’s nice to meet you too.” Everyone was so freaking nice to me. They all kept practicing for what I couldn’t clearly understand.

Ember pressed, her face illuminated by a flickering light panel overhead, casting her features in harsh relief. "The Ashen Guard." The name tasted like ash on my tongue. "Malagar's elite hunters. We tracked and captured fire-born creatures and anything else with power he wanted." My gaze flicked to Ember meaningfully. "People like you." The mark throbbed again, harder this time. I suppressed a grunt of pain and continued, words tumbling out like stones I'd been carrying too long.

“Why do I feel life stirring… when I remember nothing of the night?” The roar of Ember Falls answered in mournful cadence as Nyra Duskbane stood alone on the stone ledge, Queen of Ash, fire and water entwined, and carrying a secret more powerful than any flame.

Soon enough, thick, billowing smoke obscured her face from view. Several bystanders ran up to help, but the intense heat pushed them back. In the end, the car was consumed by flames in front of everyone, leaving behind only a blackened shell. Elise was gone, and the ashes were all that remained of her. When word reached Logan’s ears, he sat in a dimly lit room in long silence. Eventually, he let out a bitter, self-mocking chuckle, but his eyes didn’t hold joy. No matter what became of Elise, Coral wasn’t coming back.

GRACE'S POV I was determined to prove that I was really under anesthesia and I was only imagining things, so I immediately packed the bag I recognised as an old bag of mine and left my work station. I was waiting for the elevator when someone came and stood beside me. I didn't bother turning to look since I was only being delusional. “Grace? Are you going home?” A male voice asked. I immediately turned to look at the person and I had to hold in my gasp, because standing beside me was Ethan Adams. Yes, the same Ethan who died in my timeline.

Let everything go back to normal. Normal. The word tasted like ash. I turned the water off and stood dripping in the quiet. Steam swirled around me thick and heavy. But I didn’t want normal, all I want is her. And that scared me more than any slap Ethan could throw.

Her stomach was bandaged, but her face wore a victorious smile. "Do you know what he told me just now?" She pulled a small crystal out of a bag on her wheelchair. The crystal glowed, projecting an image into the air. I saw myself thirteen years ago—in rags, covered in wounds, taken and broken by three rival Alphas. I was crawling on the ground, weeping, begging for mercy. "Shut up!" I snarled. "He said," Seraphina continued, letting the humiliating images play, "that he only saved you back then out of pity. But now, he's found the woman he was truly meant to love."
