The curtains never opened. Reid sat motionless on the edge of the bed, shirt clinging to his back from dried sweat and blood. The buzz came again. Then silence. He finally reached for it, hands slow, like even the weight of the plastic device had become something too heavy to bear. He didn’t recognize the number. That was good.
