Ashbound Moon
A sliver of darkness appeared, and a thin line of pale metal slid through—moon-silver, etched with runes, moving like a needle searching for a vein.
Vesper cursed. “That’s a cage-spike.”
Dax grabbed my wrist. “Behind me.”
The spike slid farther in.
Then the wall split wider, and something stepped through that wasn’t a creature.
A person.
A woman, tall, wrapped in dark velvet, hair silver-gray, eyes the same pale amber as Vesper’s—but older. Sharper. Aged in power, not years.
She smiled at Vesper like a mother watching a child misbehave.
“Vesper,” she said softly. “You’ve been hiding in my tunnels.”
