All eyes were at that direction-the staircase. Rebecca was at the landing, close to a step and held the handrail. Her curly hair fell on her shoulder; her dress was an off-the-shoulder dress with three steps designed on it. The jewel on her pendant glinted as the light from bulb reflected on it. Fiona rolled her eyes when she saw her.

The whispers and stares finally quietened, I guess the rumors finally died down. I was at my table in class, when a girl walked up to me. "Jinny right?" She had short brown hair with purple highlights, pink full lips and a nose ring "Yeah" "Hi, I'm Rebecca," smiling, she stretched out her hand "Nice to meet you" I smiled back, taking her hand "Are you new here?" "Nope" "How come I haven't seen you around though?"

Anna I sat alone at the far end of the hall, watching Anita as she took the stage. Her voice rang out, smooth and poised, as she gave yet another one of her "Mother Teresa" speeches. The kind where she talked about her charity visits to orphanages and motherless babies' homes, handing out donations like confetti. Cameras flashed nonstop, and reporters buzzed around like overexcited bees, desperate to capture the perfect moment.

Recognition flickered across her face. “You’re the one from the news. The Rhodes girl.” I lifted my chin slightly. “I’m Anya Miller. I’m a writer.” “Sure you are,” she muttered, the skepticism thick in her tone. She hit a key with more force than necessary. “Stand against the wall.”
