Orion I’m sitting by Zane’s bedside, watching him struggle with each breath. Nova’s still working on the spell to help him, but it’s not enough. We’re running out of time. His coughing fits have gotten worse, and every time I see more blood, a new wave of panic rolls through me. I can’t lose him—not like this, not after everything.

“What’s in that, though?” “It’s the antidote that I normally use to help people who are bitten by vampires. It reverses the effects,” He explained. “And don’t worry, it has worked on others. I pushed myself to my feet, each movement screaming with pain, and cocked my head to the side. “Slow-acting wolfsbane,” I said, my voice flat, breaths fast. “You’ve got maybe fifteen minutes. Give or take.” I moved toward where my bag had fallen, never taking my eyes off him. He stumbled again, one hand braced on the wall, the other clutching at his neck. “You bastard…” I crouched, retrieved the antidote from my bag, and held it up between my fingers. “This? The antidote? It’s right here.”

"I promise." His head lifted, eyes filled with cautious relief. "The antidote is stored with the poison. Miranda kept them together," Eddie said quickly. "It's in her home—downstairs. A pink glass bottle in a wooden box. That's the antidote." "Good," I turned to go, adrenaline flooding my veins. "It'd better be there." I stormed back down the hall and paused briefly at Miranda's cell again. Somehow, she'd struggled back to her feet, red-faced, hair wild, fury in her eyes.

I turned to the guard. "I will go with you," I said. "But first, you give us the antidote." "No," the guard said. "You come with me first. Then I'll tell you." "That is not how this works," I said. The guard thought for a moment. Then he pulled out a small vial from his pocket. "Nightshade," he said. "Mixed with arsenic. The antidote is activated charcoal and atropine. You have may be twenty minutes." He threw the vial on the floor.
