“What did you tell him?” His voice was elsewhere. His eyes were too. I knew at this point that he was just stalling, wherever we were going, it was someplace he didn’t want to be. I clutch my hand to my chest, feeling my heart rapidly beating. Fear is something that I was not used to feeling, it still surprises me every time when that emotion flickers inside of me. After a few seconds of my silence, he turns his head sideways to look at me, loose strands of hair covering his blind eye. From this angle, Gloc didn’t actually look like a horrible guy. It was his eyes, I thought, that made him look scary. “Amara?”
