It was a novel, but since I didn’t know how to read, Gabriel had recommended an app that featured an AI to read the book to me. “What’s that?” Art asked. I looked up to see him staring at my phone. Was he asking what the phone was? I touched my cheek—I didn’t think so since he had his own phone in hand.

Haper's POV I tap the d******d button and watch as the progress bar fills, my heart thudding a little harder than I want to admit. As soon as it completes, I open the file. The screen brightens, the layout clean and precise, and before I can begin reading, a new message appears at the top of the app.
