Mistaken the CEO for My Husband
I asked, trying to sound casual, though my chest tightened as I waited for her answer.
“She’s been quieter than usual,” she said softly. “But nothing much.”
Quieter than usual? That didn’t sit well with me. I felt really guilty, knowing I was the reason. But what choice did I have?
I stood, ready to leave, when Mrs. Keller spoke again.
“You know,” she said, her voice sounding hesitant as she pointed, “to pretend you are her husband, you have to act like one.”
I froze, my hand on the doorknob. Her words had hit me harder than I expected.
