ROGUE BLOOD
My chest tightens.
“What questions?”
“About where she comes from,” Arachne replies. “About why things don’t add up. About why her life feels borrowed.”
I swallow.
“And you answered.”
“I told her the truth,” she says.
I laugh once, sharp and humorless.
“You don’t tell truths,” I say. “You ration them.”
Her eyes flicker, but she doesn’t deny it.
“What exactly did you tell he” I press.
“That her mother was Helena Sterling,” Arachne says.
