My book, The Art of Sculpture Making is with her” “Are you perhaps trying to major in sculpture making?” There was this glint of something dark that flashed across his eyes. At that moment, I knew that he was scared that Nerissa must have up to put up with another competitor. I shook my head. “No” He heaved a sigh of relief. “Then why do you have the book then?” “Because reading is art and I love art” “Oh okay, you can take the book then…” He finally allowed me to leave while I walked behind the servants who carried the box to Nerissa’s room. The box was dropped in Nerissa’s room and that was when a thought flashed through my mind.

For the first time, Cathedra had someone who didn't cringe every time she opened her mouth to speak. So this is what having a friend feels like, huh? Cathedra thought to herself. One lunch break, while waiting for Diane underneath the tree, Cathedra was scribbling a draft of her first novel in her notebook. The novel contained the scenes she saw in the storybook, back in her kindergarten days. Since that day at kindergarten, she didn't tell anyone what she saw in the storybooks anymore. The thought of seeing things that other people couldn't still terrified her but she tried hard not to think about it by avoiding any book she can see other than school books and textbooks.

Chapter 1: The Midnight Invitation My heart hammered wildly in my chest as I pushed open the heavy glass door of the gallery, the cool night air clinging to my skin like a whispered secret. Rain fell in a gentle veil outside, softening the city lights into a dreamy haze that mirrored the turmoil inside me. I wasn’t supposed to be here this late, alone with my sculptures and an enigmatic stranger who had offered more money than I had seen in years for my most intimate piece. But curiosity—and something deeper, a restless hunger I’d buried beneath layers of clay and long hours in the studio—had pulled me here like a moth to flame.

“Come see my new drawings! I made the one with Daddy and me at the zoo!” The living room was a disaster zone of crayons and paper. I let Nova pull me onto the floor beside her, my heart squeezing as she proudly displayed her artwork—stick figures with exaggerated smiles, a lopsided giraffe, Adrian and her holding hands. “You even got daddy's smile,” I murmured, tracing the smile she'd drawn on Adrian’s stick-figure face. Nova beamed. “Yes, I love his smile.” Adrian crouched beside us, his voice carefully light. “Nova, where's Ms. Helen?”

I can hear Arthur’s breath catch quietly behind me as he takes it in. “You’re quite… creative,” Leonard says, peering at the painting. “Thank you,” I reply. “I just finished that one today, actually.” I glance at Arthur and add with a fond smile, “I’m going to call it ‘A Little Batty’.” Arthur snorts softly into his wine glass, his eyes sparkling as he meets my gaze. “Very… cheerful,” Wendy comments, in a tone that suggests she doesn’t consider that a good thing. “I think it’s beautiful,” Arthur says, looping an arm around my waist. “Your best work yet, I dare say.”

He said out loud instead. “Yes.” Nova clapped excitedly, throwing her hand around his waist to hug him. “You like it?” “Yes baby, I love it.” He said, gently stroking her hair as he stared at the painting. The way the young woman had mixed colors to get this shade of neon was just intelligent. Well, he should not be so amazed. Ciaran only admitted geniuses, no matter how much money their guardians owned. “It’s Blind Tonto Drawing.” “What?” He turned to look down at Nova.

It was sweet, but at the same time, it seemed as if the man was declaring that she was his, that the woman belonged entirely to him, and no one could ever take her away. The black-and-white erotic portraits were spectacular! I had never seen artworks like these in my entire life. All of them were drawn in charcoal, just like when Jack sketched Rose naked in the Titanic movie. The artist was insanely talented. I suddenly wanted to have something like this made, one of me and Arthur. Just imagining it made me giddy. Oh, I wonder if it could even be filmed?

I knew it the moment that I laid eyes on it. If I had to choose my favorite art piece from this entire book, this painting would be it!
