The art gallery in Chelsea was not the kind of place Aria Stone—or rather, Aria West—used to frequent. It was small, edgy, and smelled faintly of turpentine and pretension. But tonight, it felt like the Louvre. The walls were lined with canvases. Landscapes, mostly. Moody, dark forests that opened up into sudden, blinding clearings of light. They were Theo’s. Aria stood in front of a painting titled The Fortress. It showed a castle, not made of stone, but of interwoven hands.

She dipped her brush into a vibrant shade of blue and began to paint, letting her emotions flow onto the canvas. As she worked, her colleagues chatted and laughed around her, their own creations taking shape. But Sophia was lost in her art, pouring her heart and soul into every stroke. When they finally finished, the group gathered around each other's canvases, admiring the diverse range of emotions and interpretations. Other works included metal sculptures, canvases covered in glass and beads and ribbons, and more traditional paintings of people that were haunting in their colors and overall composition. Thea hadn’t entered in paintings, and now she wished she had. She hadn’t entered at all, actually. After she’d sent out a number of query letters to agents for her graphic novel, she hadn’t heard anything for weeks. Assuming rejection, she’d been about to send out a second round of letters to other agents when she’d gotten the email from an agent in New York.

I was lost in thought, trying to figure out what was missing from the artwork. It was a beautiful piece, depicting the city skyline at night, with the tall buildings lit up like beacons against the dark sky. Despite all the detail and care I had put into it, I could not shake the feeling that something was missing.

It was a pencil art but it went way beyond just art since I couldn't understand what I was looking at. I stretched to pick a few more. They were about the same thing as the last four I checked but each one started to look a bit different until I stumbled across one that looked a lot different. It was just a picture drawing of a caged gate of a circle tunnel. There was nothing more than that after I turned it around to check for any other clue. It made me hungry for more art in a strange way. That was all about the art. The rest of the books were business, history and philosophically related, and they bored me.
