The pain, it was nothing, nothing compared to the feeling of Ash’s teeth in my flesh.
As something snapped inside of me, I could feel him. For that fleeting moment, Dain was here with me. The dark presence that hovered at the edges of my mind, always eagerly waiting for permission. I gave it to him, looking through his eyes as he did mine. Even that fraction of a second, it was enough to memorize the confusion on his face as he understood what had been done to me, and how powerless we both were to stop it.
Just like that, the connection was snuffed out.
