POV: third person written by the author Claudio Claudio watched Luke carrying Aurora in his arms, under a heavy rain, still unable to believe that it was actually happening. The tears mixed with the raindrops, and no one could tell if her face was soaked by the weather or the pain.

Vanessa is in the kitchen when I walk in. She's drinking coffee. Her face is calm. Too calm. The kind of calm that comes from holding onto something you're not ready to share. The kind of calm that comes from sitting on a secret that's too heavy to speak. The kind of calm that comes from knowing something everyone else doesn't. The kind of calm that comes from carrying a truth that could change everything. The kind of calm that comes from being on the edge of a revelation. The kind of calm that comes from having the power to expose the truth. The kind of calm that comes from being the one who holds the key.

Instead I held it tighter. For the first time since I had been brought to Petrova, I wanted to know more than I had any right to know, and I hated the idea of feeling as vulnerable as I did. I pressed the notebook to my chest and let the questions sit there, heavy and insistent, until sleep finally took me and the world narrowed to the steady, traitorous beat of my own heart.

She hanged up before I could say anything. I sent her message, telling her Good night. I laid on my bed and couldn't get her image out of my face until I fell asleep.
