"Take this gift, for you've always been a dark Fei... and never a witch.” Bahm begins howling and snarling as he turns to face us in pain. It frightened me seeing him so huge like this and upset. His paws were digging into the ground and he jumps up onto his hind legs, howling viciously. "Wait, what? What does she mean?" I ask Anna, but she doesn't reply and just as I'm going to look at her face, I hear Bahm roar loudly and razor blade like feathers sprouting from his long back. My eyes become hypnotized by the purple flicker running along the the whole frame.

Raw, ancient, primal rage. Her vision shattered into silver light. A roar tore from her throat that didn’t sound human. Her bones trembled violently, not shifting fully—but breaking, reforming, expanding. Claws burst from her fingertips. Her eyes glowed silver-bright, burning like moonfire. Power—thick, suffocating, alpha-level—rolled out of her in a crushing wave. The attackers froze. Some whimpered. Some fell to their knees. All of them fled. Every single one.

Death by my father’s hand. He’d killed me! My own father hung me. Pain and all consuming rage followed this revelation. “Awake are we?” The predator stopped, turned in my direction and stared right at me with his semi-luminescent green eyes. Those eyes drew me right in, forcing all my attention to the creature in front of me.

I reign in my shock at the expensive art hanging up, not really paying attention to where I am walking. Then I am colliding head on with what felt like a wall of granite. I glance up and look straight into the same smoky grey eyes that lurked in every corner of my dreams last night. Um. What. My brain is short-circuiting. “Wha— um. What?” Eloquent, Kat. He raises his eyebrows, clearly amused at my discombobulation. And, shit, I am staring. I open my mouth to try again, but nothing comes out.

His gut rolled with it. "You need strength. The cat wounded you. You need blood to heal, and it is so good. Drink, brother. Drink it all." The persuasive whispers continued. Beneath him, the cat began to shake. The man prowling within the animal shouted something unintelligible, something human. Human. He could not kill while feeding. " Not human. A cat. Tear its throat out. Rejoice in the power. Feel it, brother, feel the absolute power of a life ebbing away beneath your hands. Be what you were always meant to be-what you are."
