Lydia’s pov “Bridge, hard port rudder! Full emergency override!" Zane’s voice thundered through the internal comms of the L.V. Ironclad, drowning out the shrieking storm alarms. He didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second. As Damian’s heavy steel cutter surged forward on its suicide ramming vector toward the defenseless L.V. Sovereign, Zane grabbed the heavy manual throttle on the bridge and slammed it forward into the red zone. The Ironclad’s twin military-grade turbines roared to life, churning the black ocean into a white froth as forty thousand tons of reinforced steel veered straight into the collision path.

​Cassian’s POV ​The Iron Fleet did not glide upon the waves like the bone ships of the Archon. They plowed through the water, their massive, dark hulls cutting the red-stained surf with a mechanical indifference that made my blood run cold. There were no sails, no oars, and no shimmering siphons of glass. Instead, thick, black smoke belched from iron chimneys, staining the morning sky with a soot that tasted of sulfur and progress.

We were horribly outnumbered. "He is bringing the dreadnoughts too," Kaelen added grimly. He pointed a shaking finger toward the center of the golden line. Massive, towering silhouettes were beginning to materialize through the ocean mist. They were Aurelian siege ships, coated entirely in heavy gold plating. They moved slowly, crushing the thick ice floes beneath their massive reinforced hulls.

The enormous windows that stretched floor to ceiling on the east side of the building were draped with a delicate silvery mesh, reflecting the light from the cast iron chandelier that hung low in the centre of the room.
