The ascent to the peak of the Moonrise territory was a path carved by the paws and boots of a thousand ancestors, winding through ancient pines that stood like silent, towering sentinels in the dark. Tonight, however, the darkness was an illusion. The sky above was swept entirely clean of clouds, an endless expanse of obsidian that served only as a canvas for the most magnificent moon Aria had ever seen. It hung low and heavy over the jagged spine of the mountains, a perfect, unblemished sphere of blinding silver. Its light was so intense it felt almost liquid, pouring through the canopy of the forest and painting the rocky trail in shades of pearl and ash.
