Wanni stopped at a cluster of men in impeccable tailored tuxedos, who had their backs turned to us, and were discussing something in low, serious tones.
“Darling?” Wanni said, and tapped the shoulder of the man in the center. “There is someone very special I would like you to meet.”
The man finished his sentence, then turned with a polite, practiced smile on his face.
I froze.
It was Baron.
His smile froze for a second, then widened, but it did not reach his eyes, which was cold and calculating.
“Lillian,” he said smoothly. Then he took my outstretched hand, not for a handshake, but to bring it to his lips, with his eyes pinned on mine. “What a delightful surprise. We meet again.”
